Figured i'd make myself a separate thread about some things behind the scenes here at Twisted Tuning. Wanted to have a separate thread for things im doing that doesn't directly correlate to the MHD OTS maps which are also constantly being worked on.

Sporting a 6AT non-alpina X-Drive as the test mule (good friend of mine let me hold his car for testing and some other stuff)

Current mods when we started was a JB4, downpipe, BMS intake, lowering springs, and exhaust. All else stock. Since then, VSRF 7" IC has been installed, New plugs, New radiator (damn those endtanks and drain plug o-rings, lol).

Bye Bye JB4

Anyway this thread will be used to post new findings and etc on the N55 development on my end.

Testing the limits of the Stock N55 Turbo.... 15.1psi at almost 6500rpms??? Stock turbo isn't as weak as some have believed over the years.....doing some experimental Tuning here. Don't mind the IAT's. This was prior to the IC upgrade and was done on Stock IC.

That's very impressive, its always great to see people take stock setups to new boundries! Keep up the good work

Is ~18 psi the max you've taken the N55 stock turbo to?

Not in the midrange no. Up top I've taken it to a little over 15psi which has never been done. Definitely helps carry out torque a little bit more with a lot less fall on your face phenomenon.

These findings don't only effect the stock turbo. It opens up even more headway for a proper flowing turbo upgrade.

Hello! Johnny from Sweden here. I'm new to this forum and have just started to look for some upgrades to my 2012 E92 6-speed N55. this sounds intresting that the stock turbo can deliver more than previous expected. my question is what Power and torque could be expected from the stock turbo with FBO and good reliability for a Daily driven car like mine. Any ideas ?

Hey Johnny,

Pushing the stock turbo to the limits I feel that touching 400whp is achievable with some good octane and a good tune.

On average though, mid to high 300s I's the norm.

Ok, thanks for your reply. Then i may go for a turbo upgrade and aim for around 470-480hp. I guess the N55 should be reliable with that Power.

Johnny, a proper turbo upgrade that matches ones power goal and build us always the best choice rather that pushing the ragged limits of a smaller less efficient compressor.

You will make more power at a lesser boost pressure ratio. Which is not only easier on engine components, but easier on the actual turbo as well.

Turbo matching is very important. 470-480bhp goal of yours would be achievable with a Stage 1 type turbo. But I think the Stage 2 turbo would suffice better as it'd give a bit more buffer for efficiency and potential for more power of you ever want more

yes, i'm with you on what you say. Same principle as on my Ford Cosworth with bigger turbo. I also prefer a smoother Power Power and torque delivery which also is better with a bigger turbo. I want to reduce torque down low for reliability and to not get a hit from lower revs and the feeling that the Engine signs off on higher revs.
Thanks for your reply!

Hallo Justin,

How much whp do you think you can get with 100ron and stock turbo on a fbo 135i dct?
