I’m making this post to warn people about RFP Tuning (aka Dean Fuhriman), who has been “tuning” for the N5X community now for a few months. He has a history of screwing up people’s cars, and even bragging about it on Facebook.

My first experience with him was Sept 16 when I inquired about his tune, he seemed to be very helpful and informative (I have very basic knowledge of tuning so I didn’t know any better). During the tuning and revision process I slowly started to get the vibe that something wasn’t right by the way he talked and also was unable to figure out basic problems that a tuner should have known. Throughout out conversations he mentioned things like “max that fucking turbo”, “I will max this this bitch tomorrow”. He also kept telling me (as well as Kevin and who knows how many others) that we have boost leaks, resulting in me spending over $500 or more trying to find it and fix the problem (new chargepipe, boost solenoid, pressure & smoke tests). After having multiple techs look at it (I work at a BMW Dealership) they all said it was good and they think the problem is a tuner issue.

I met Kevin Cohen on a N5X support group who was having a very similar issue to me, so I sent him a message asking who was tuning his car, and it turned out to be Dean. After talking we found 2 other people who were having issues with RFP tunes and ended up in a groupchat. Finally Kevin reached out to Ken Atkinson (WedgePerformance) and talked to him regarding our issues, that is when he informed us of Dean’s history. From what I was told he just recently learned to tune on his own car back in April, and kept asking Ken questions on how to do things, as well as something as basic as how to flash his car with MHD. Dean doesn’t seem to know how to fix issues with his own tunes and blames it on mechanical issues instead of himself. Such as Kevin and I’s imaginary “boost leak”, Ilir’s overboosting issues, etc.

After finally giving up on him and his tune I attempted to talk to him about getting a refund as it has done nothing but cause my car issues. He proceeded to go off on me about how there is a no refund disclosure, how I broke my own car, etc (screenshots will all be included). Dean was a very nice guy up until I asked for a refund and we got into a heated exchange ending with me finally telling him off (he proceeded to block me).

I’m posting this to warn other people to stay far away from him and his tunes. I’d hate for someone else to waste their money on an unsafe tune like many others and myself have.

I tries to warn people about him in a FB group after seeing him post logs and a video and got chewed out. He posted a log showing that he accidentally tuned for a customers stock turbos to hit 25psi (it was probably one of the people in OP) but said its okay because he probably holds the new record for Max stock turbo whp.

I pointed out that A: targets shouldn't be solid from 1k to 7k rpm, and that if he's accidentally making a CUSTOMER'S car hit 25psi and then posting about it and shrugging it off with an 'lol' that he shouldn't be tuning anyone's cars. A few people commented saying he does a good job, then he replied saying he has plenty of experience tuning and it was a hardware issue. I checked his site and his listed tuning experience prior to buying an N54 this year was only foxbody mustangs. I again pointed it out that he shouldn't be tuning others cars and that it smells like EMP 2.0 before being called various names by his customers and giving up.

Thankfully he's been banned from some groups due to using the N word in comment sections, but hopefully people realize he's a hack before he blows up someone's engine with how unknowledgeable boost targeting.

Either research and tune yourself or go with someone with a proven track record. This is definitely on the list of things that grind my gears lol.

so is there actually something wrong with his tune?

So far looks like you had a boost leak, your turbos tried to compensate and ended up working hader then they should causing them to fail. Dont see any wrongdoing here on Deans part. Just sounds like you are pissed cause you don't read the fine print and can't put on a silicone coupler so now you throw a hissyfit.

Has anyone actually looked through his toon and found any mistake?

Lol. I see he is all over the frankenturbo Facebook group as a trusted tuner.
sorry but this is bullshit. show me where is he referred to as a trusted tuner ? Doug goes out of his way recommending Ken / Wedge. He never recommended nor referred to him as a trusted tuner at least as far as I saw

Just took a quick look at the n54 logs and bin. Lots of little things in the logs that most people would agree are sub-par (maybe the tune wasn’t finished), but one thing that stands out is that he’s using the 3 cell tmap table in the bin and also asking his client to make sure the 3.5 bar tmap box in the mhd flash time options is un-checked. He should know that if the 3 cell Table is being used then the check box for the n20 map sensor doesn’t do a damn thing, checked or unchecked. Maybe he’s just trying anything at that point to diagnose the load request issue, IDK.

Sorry I am late to the party where you can all try to take a hit on me HOWEVER. Let's open TunerPro and take a peak at the file shall we ? Illir's car has issue with N20 sensor as in tune LOAD Target is 185 with taper and NOT a flat 190(as shown in log)... which would indicate there is something else going on with the car besides the "tune" I was puzzled myself as to "why the hell is it doing it as there is nothing wrong in tune". V2 Version of the tune has load even lower, set at 170 to test the theory if its really the tune ... but LOAD remained at 190, so again... something else.

Now lets dig into Michael's tune.
First of all he failed to mention that he had problems with pipes properly aligning (Charge pipe to S pipe) which cause a leak, second tuner DOES NOT control JB4 boost as we can only set it to a degree, logic is not done by DME alone but by JB4 as well. Now if you look at the overboost and setting on JB4 itself, you will see few things: a)There is no anomaly and boost safety set properly, b)Boost values are with taper with corresponding FF and Duty bias settings. Since we are doing screen shots lets hit it again where car runs fine and customer beats the crap out of it (which as appears tuner's fault)

Conclusion:
*Don't mod vehicle if you don't want things to break (which they didn't just overboosted)
*If you are going to bash someone (me in this case) Please do so with information. AKA Open the Bin file in Tuner pro, analyze it and then come bash me. Thankfully files are posted which protects me as I knew this day would come where someone wouldn't be happy. So go at it
*If you have no idea about what you are doing with bin file or tunerpro... how can you say that the tune is bad if you lack simple knowledge to understand the mechanics behind it ? Don't be that guy, learn.

If you have any more questions/concerns/suggestions. You can talk to me on FB or email me. I do not take 2 weeks to reply :)

Thought of the day: Remember, competition will always talk you down for personal gains as it is not fortunate for them to have someone take their $$$ out of their pocket.

Why did you ask the n54 guy to uncheck the 3.5 bar map sensor option in mhd? Just trying to understand your thought process on that.

3.5 bar scaled in map itself. I asked him to check it before and then uncheck it. Trying to figure out the issue. As you can see load target is not flat at 190, it is progressive with taper so when it flat out went to 190, that began to puzzle me as map is written correctly. Upload or download of the file could of been the issue however customer didn't want to keep working with me.

I was confused by the question because that check box doesn’t do anything whatsoever when the map is scaled with the 3 cell map conversation like it is in the bin. It’s just ignored and custom mhd logic is written in. But I get that you were trying anything at that point to diagnose because I do see the load request issue which is a weird one...

Exactly. If you look at the map it doesn't have issues at all. However the car does something on its own. Michael started accusations without knowing the facts and issues behind it. No one refunds their tunes as it is Digital Product so why should I ... LOL.
