Note that an SSD at 100hz is near many of the parts maxim possible switching speed, or even beyond (so it would always be on). Many SSD's, especially ones that switch DC and not AC (VERY IMPORTANT TO GET ONE THAT SWITCHES DC) have a max speed of 10hz. So one has to be VERY careful using an SSD for PWM.

Better option is to use a half H bridge, much faster and can still handle switching an inductive load.

Can the Reflex be used solely as a boost controller (as opposed to a PI controller)?

For context: wondering if I can use it as a GFB3 substitute for a single turbo setup and then down the road get a PI kit and use the reflex for PI + boost control.

I'm currently installing Reflex on my ST 135i. Ran into one issue, just wanted to see if anybody else experienced/solved something similar.

Problem: MHD/DME is throwing MHD005 ECA Signal CEL and is not able to read ECA %via CAN-BUS.

Setup Notes:
  • Reflex installed with all the wiring correctly connected (power, sensors, and can-bus)
  • Aux 1 OUT wired to MAC Valve (Verified working via bench test routine)
  • Aux 2 OUT wired to secondary fuel pump relay (Verified working via bench test routing)
  • Reflex flashed with latest firmware
  • Loaded Reflex V42 map "v42_Reflex_PLUS_550cc OEM HP N54-N55.bin" with "MHD B58 and N54" and "N54 N55 and S55 3.5bar" patches applied.
  • Reflashed DME with my older custom MHD map and enabled Motiv Reflex ECA in the flash time options.
  • DME/MHD is able to see other CAN-BUS information such as Aux 1/2 DC, PI Errors, etc, just not ECA data.
  • Reflex is able to see ECA data when using TunerPro, so it appears to be an issue with CAN-BUS integration with DME

UPDATE: After installing ethanol sensor into the fuel line and running the car, CAN-BUS reporting of ethanol content from Reflex to DME/MHD is functioning. I guess if it's reporting 0% / 50Hz, DME is programmed to throw a fault perhaps?

Your reflex harness, for the canbus [green wire , yellow wire].. Did you wire the Green to a thin red wire [pin 1 from x60001] and the yellow to a blue w/purplish stripe - pin 14 from x60001] ? These wires were twisted together on my harness. Long story short, when I do this and power the car up, the tach needle 'twitches'.

I also selected MHD-n54 and N54-3.5 bar in the Reflex.. patched, and applied. Car throws that mhd-001 error constantly.

I cannot get the Reflex to go into bootloader mode, and I'm on v42.hex . Any ideas ? I guess I'm trying to be sure I followed the rev8 PDF correctly. I believe I did.

Did you use the supplied splice/taps on the can bus wires? the faults give me the impression either I have a good connection and the reflex is killing the signal or I broke a wire somehow. Funny thing is disconnecting the canbus wires removes the twitching and just leaves me with a mhd error code. I'm so confused.

I had an issue at one point during my install and it was because one of the CAN-BUS tap connectors didn’t pinch the wire. Since wires are twisted it can easily twist inside the tap pin will miss it. I suggest verifying that.

Another issue could be swapped CAN-BUS connections would would return MHD001 error, so ensure yellow and green wires are connected exactly as Motiv instructions say.

Ya that's the issue I was having. The wipers stopped but now I still have the MHD001 error. The wires I have identified seem correct, however there is a second blue wire with red strip on the same connector, although it's not on pin 14. Do you know what firmware you're on ?

Both of the wires have to be a twisted pair due to CAN-BUS design. Are they?

I flashed the latest firmware few days ago on mine.

Yes, I'm on the twisted pair wires. I cannot get the Reflex to go into firmware update mode. I think it may be my laptop. Im using windows 7 on it.

Did you plug in the ECA to the right 3 pin harness?
Pretty sure I did. I ended up going back to the dtml wiring . From my old working setup the only change would be to revert the dtml-dme wire [pin 1 from the reflex-harness to pin 3 on the dme-]. and connect the canbus twisted wires. But when I do that my ECA voltage is 5volts and I get canbus problems. I had patched my Reflex file to include the n54 canbus patch but that didn't resolve it. Currently I'm in limbo with Jake and Motiv. I tried calling FS Tuning [they are local] but that went to limbo also. I have a guy near me that has a reflex, I will try to take my unit to him this week and see if he can do the firmware flash. Jake actually Teamviewer into my laptop and couldn't get it to go to flash mode. I've tried 3 different laptops, confirmed my power/ground connections are solid. Something just wont 'click'. So now I'm back to wired-Ethanol configuration, which has been working fine for me .
I'm stuck. I will be ringing bells today again to see if any of the major players can help me out.

I encounter same MHD001 code. ECA plugged into Red, Black, Green harness.
Ethanol content reading is available via CAN.
T-tabs have been used for connections.
12V DC and ground have been checked and all found in good order.

Any ideas?

If you're getting Ethonal content via can, have you patched your Motiv .bin file with the correct 'Can' patch ? You need the 'can' patch as well as the Boost-sensor patch to run the can, according to v.8 Reflex Plus directions. You can use tuner pro to download the active .bin and then check the current patches. Apply the correct patches and then write the .bin to the Reflex. Once that's done and you restart the MHD code 'should' go away . Also make sure your flash option was correct. IF you're getting MHD codes you probably picked the Motiv option [which should be correct for Can]
My issue is I cannot get ECA reading via Can :( . Also which version of the Reflex firmware are you on ? I'm not sure if it's a factor [cannot get a direct answer to that]. . You seem to be close than I am to having it working correctly , good luck.

I used the bin file (v42) which I received from Jake as he is my tuner :)
All steps has been taken according to the manual.

Aux output 1 for the mac valve is working fine as well.

Everything is working good except for the code which popes up randomly.

random code might be wiring.
the .bin file should have all the patches.
I misspoke earlier. I meant to ask which version of the firmware .hex you're on. I'm on the v.42.hex and I think that may be 'my' issue. Inconsistent can-bus might be those funky splice-taps . The canbus wires are really small . If I can get it to work I may cut/splice my wiring to eliminate any fussy-t-splice issues. For your setup I'm sure Jake will sort you out. Best of luck.

for the canbus wires I used the small T-tabs, ethanol readings are stable as well so not sure if connection is a issue.
I mean the system is working fine but its just the finishing touch that would be nice to eliminate the shadow code.

Id try plugging it into the 3 wire harness and try checking the voltage on the input wire from the sensor to the reflex.

If you get a voltage then its probably software related.

Other than that you just need to make sure mhd can bus is selected and you select the ethanol sensor option before you flash your car.

I don't see the MHD Can Bus selection.

Other than the shadow code which I have described above I don't have any readings on the following parameters which my tuner told me to switch to:

-MHD+ WGDC base
-MHD+ Boost
-MHD+ boost target
-EGT pre turbo

I must overlooked something during the flashing procedure, but what?
