Just received this email from FCP euro. On 3/22 I ordered -937 injectors, and received -079 injectors instead.

Anyone heard about this or know the reason for this change? As yall know the -937 injector is associated with the injector SIB for the S63 engine: https://blog.fcpeuro.com/difference-between-direct-fuel-injector-13538648937-and-13538616079

I asked for clarification on this change and if they knew the reason behind it. Waiting for a response.

That sucks. Glad I got mine when I did. I would check other websites. Someone is bound to have some in stock one would hope.

You could buy up every single injector you can get your hands on and corner the market if they really are going away and will not be replaced with a better/newer version.

Please update the thread once you know more.

Edit:Ask FCP how they will honor their lifetime warranty on the part. My guess is replace it with the other injector but it would be nice to know.

If BMW comes out with an index 13 I will shoot myself

They should shoot themselves for it taking 11-12 years which equals basically a revision every year. Now that so much of their fleet is out of warranty I doubt they care or it makes financial sense to upgrade n54 injectors.

The way replacement works is they apply your original purchase price to your new order. So if new injectors cost $250 in the future, they’ll apply the $150 you probably originally paid

sooo basically the same part, just part number trickery?

No please read: https://blog.fcpeuro.com/difference-between-direct-fuel-injector-13538648937-and-13538616079

Both injectors as referenced are index 12 and come packaged the exact same way. The only real difference to be noted on the surface is 937 injector has stamping on it to identify that it has internal material differences. The internal differences between these injectors is the following:
- Internal filter
- Optimized thermal compensating oil

So they are better in theory.

I did read that article... it was linked in my original post

That doesn't answer my question though. The FCP Euro Rep described the -079 injectors as "the most up to date injector available". But supposedly the -937s are better?

The response is confusing, from FCPEuro, I agree. Speaking with a BMW parts guy is probably a better call. BTW I bought my 937s from BMW of Fairfax on 1/03/2018 for $114 each.

Pretty good price. I just checked the Fairfax bmw parts page, and they are priced around $250/each now.

". There are two numbers at this time that you can order which are 13538648937 or 13538616079. 13538648937 is associated with SIB 13 08 15 which is for the S63 engine. This injector originally received a material update which was an improved internal filter which should not melt like in early injectors. At the present both 13538648937 and 13538616079 are the same injector with the same material update. The only difference is a significant cost savings. "

I bought new from FCP a couple years ago when the extended warranty came out and a set of six was $1,700. But BMW cut me a check, and they have a lifetime warranty.

I'm pretty certain I remember reading somewhere that manufacturer's are required to continue producing parts for a minimum of 10 years after vehicle production ceases. No chance these are going to stop being produced so soon.
