Upgraded coolant hose fitting

Gotta love it. Upgraded aluminum fitting on the way. If you guys haven't I'd highly suggest replacing the crappy plastic connnector with the aluminum one before it starts to leak and deform. For those that don't know that's the cylinder head to thermostats coolant hose. Mine developed a leak where the hose meets the connector. If your hovering around 90k I'd suggest taking a look
Over your coolant hoses.

Part number listed in the picture For the replacement hose. The connector isn't sold separately unless you go with the upgraded connector listed above.

Thanks for the heads-up. Is this also needed for the Mishimoto or CSF aluminum radiators?

No. Because this coolant hose doesn't attatch to the radiator. It begins its journey from the cylinder head down to the thermostat. It's a very common problem for the plastic connector to break into pieces or deform and cause a leak.

Yea really nice little piece of insurance if you ask me.. Plus you don't have to dance around not removing the hose to do other work because you know it will fall apart in your hand lol

Pretty sure its this hose right here, plugs into the top of the tstat and goes straight up to the head. Some kind of bypass:

Solid piece. I ordered from a different vendor on ebay, and it was closer to $30 IIRC back when I replaced the OFHG.

How'd you get the steel band off the old piece? Did you just cut the old fitting off?

I just used a dremmel and cut a groove, and then used dikes to cut the bane off.

Mine just came right off by hand when I pulled up on it. Probably Bc the plastic piece was deteriorated.

It is kind of difficult to do as preventative maintenance. The band is a challenge for someone that is not prepared to cut it off.

But getting the plastic fitting out (one that is still is good shape and not falling apart) is also a challenge. Trying to get that out without damaging the hose, and without letting a bunch of plastic bits to fall into the hose.

I am about to do this a second time - well.... My Son is doing it.

I have suggested tieing a wad of cloth to a string to use to plug the hose then use the string to pull the plug out and any plastic bits that made there way into the hose.

All that said, I definitely recommend doing it early. Most people describe it as a leak, but one of Son's failed completely spewing coolant all over the place. Luckily it happened as he was pulling into his apartment's parking lot.

Yeah it’ll happen no matter what. Better to do it not and never worry about it again. And it’s so cheap. Also can save you from having small pieces get ingested by your water pump.

I ended up using vice grips to crush the plastic inside the hose. I could then pull the steel band right off. Cutting it was not really working. I was cutting the rubber and at one point the heat from cutting even started to make the rubber smoke. Vice grips took 2 seconds and the steel band actually is a nice safeguard against damage the rubber lol

Mine was causing a major coolant leak. As I removed it, the whole plastic fell apart. The original BMW PN for the entire hose with the plastic adapter is PN 11 53 7 541 992 .

Rein, BMP, and other vendors I found on Amazon sold them. The other end connects to the thermostat. I think that part is known as the Mickey Mouse adapter. I used a dremel to cut off the silver band and used my existing hose.

If any of you somehow ordered an upgraded one but can't seem to get the rubber o-ring to fit, get one from the dealership. I learned the hard way. The one that came with my kit was a bit thicker and once I replaced it with an OE part, it fit perfectly. PN 11 53 7 545 278
