I've been looking to get people's opinions on whether you all are going to switch over your WGDC tune to the new base tables added in MHD+. Has anyone tried them out yet? Obviously there's a huge upside for those with aftermarket turbos, but anyone with stockers using them yet? I have the original WGDC base table dialed in fairly well, any reason to switch?

I’m looking at transferring my new, WIP, stock turbo FlexFuel bin to MHD+. My main goal is to achieve 24psi max boost, which means I have an N20 tmap and a scaled bin. It’s a pain to keep the boost pressures where I want them and MHD+ promises that the new tables will make tuning a lot easier.

Yeah definitely promising thanks to being able to use real PSI values on the axis. I guess it's just a matter of getting logs in. Trying to figure out what WGDC values to start out with since the flow is different with MHD+ tables (no adders etc).

You could always rescale the boost setpoint axis on the WGDC base table to show target boost. Boost setpoint is just (“boost target“+“ambient pressure")/"ambient pressure".

I personally don't understand why people struggle with the stock base table. There's good reason BMW chose MAF and boost setpoint as the axis. It compensates for the ambient conditions and scales depending on airflow demand.

I built the tables for it already and was planning on testing later today. If you’ve used Rpm x boost setpoint before you should have a decent head start on your base table. Mostly unsure of how my guesstimate of P/D factors are going to behave. If you’re well dialed in already not sure it’s worth the effort. I’m just in a constant state of testing new stuff in pursuit of perfection I will never find 🙃

Indeed it will help a lot. Just enter you desired psi and here you are. but unfortunately you will loose the precise boost control. I'm thinking of returning back to classic wgdc as of now.

BTW, Corbanistan, mind looking thru my post with logs? Maybe you will be able to give some hints.(except moving the load higher)

Classic WGDC has a lot of advantages I think. I get how it can be confusing but I got mine dialed in and drives great.

Yeah I've always used classic WGDC tables and had no issues. Just thought I'd start a convo about the new ones to see what people's opinions are as well as pros and cons. At least we all have multiple options now. @carabuser makes a great point. I'll probably stick with classic tables for now since they work fine.

Are you talking about how boost exceeds target after shift? Are you using just the new ceiling table? Looks blow-off related. Sometimes I get a very short boost spike as throttle closes and BOV proceeds to let pressure out. But within milliseconds its back to target

@Sava666 somewhat of a tangent but that log actually looks pretty good. Since you're on stockers still, I was wondering how fast you reach peak boost during a run from around 2500 rpm. How old are your turbos?

Ok thanks, it's taking me about 1000 rpms which I thought was fairly normal but I've been seeing logs with very fast spool ups. Lean spool or no?
No matter lean or not. Maybe your blades are tired. You should try lean spool.

I've had lean on but I saw a discussion somewhere around here where somebody had more stable results with it off. Yeah turbos are over 100,000 miles so definitely a little tired just from use.

I've been fairly conservative with WGDC during spool so I might play around with that.

I've been using the new tables since May and it takes the guess work out of like a hundred variables.

Boost target is perfectly flat and easy to set, though wastegate duty cycle and both P and D factor will need to be setup manually with no baseline available.

If you're already a pro at the stock wastegate setup, there's not much of a need to switch over, unless you switch maps/boost targets a lot

Ya Iv been playing with the new boost control and its been helpful. Mainly looking for better control for traction. Standard tables are pretty easy to tweak for little adjustments but still a bit of a guessing game. Iv been meaning to spend some time to try and setup the new wastegate control but was chasing a pcv issues that had the car sitting for a bit.

Never followed up on this here… I messed with it for a little bit. My primary goal in testing was to knock down post shift boost spikes. I failed with this method. The boost solenoids just can’t dump the wastegates/vacuum fast enough for the sudden drop in rpm’s during shifts. Even with the most ridiculous P/D factors to try to combat them. So I went back to the standard control scheme for my purposes at least. You also lose the ability to +/- wgdc per map slot with the adder and that was big negative for me only recently getting that new toy. I really like having the all situations covered piece of mind (without a flash) Low/High/93oct/Valet maps currently.
