So this was fun...
Thought I had a leaking oil pan gasket, but it was far worse than I expected.

Long story short, a few weeks back I hit a pothole which broke my front axle.
Apparently it hit so hard that the front diff top mounting points fractured.

Believe it or not the wheel is mint condition.

Trying to source a used oil pan for N55 X-Drive, not wanting to pay $770 for a new one.
I'm seeing some listings stating that the oil pan fits N52, N54, N55.
Does anyone know if they all really use the same oil pan!?
Seems kind of far fetched to me.

I might add that my car is dropped 1 1/2" sitting on some H&R springs and Koni struts.
I'm sure this contributed to the extra hard hit.
I was already thinking about raising it back up an inch or so and going bigger rims since it's such a rough ride.
This just sealed the deal.

Bigger rims will just make the ride harsher. You might want to consider a taller sidewall.

I hear ya, but I was already planning on going bigger anyway to fit the larger M3 brakes I've already got waiting to go on.
I will def go with a taller sidewall, that's a good suggestion.

Well, I'm a little late on the update, but all is well and she's back up and running.
The oil pan change wasn't as complicated as some make it out to be, but it definitely takes time and you'll want to have someone help when removing and installing the sub frame.

Also, I wouldn't suggest trying this if you don't have access to a lift; while it can be done on jack stands, and some have done it, it will seriously impact the difficulty level of this type of maintenance.

Or go with FCP Euro for the lifetime replacement when you hit that pothole again...
I ended up getting lucky and found an oil pan on ebay for $250 shipped and it had a 60 day warranty. FCP still wanted over $750 for the oil pan =\

Since I bought a used oil pan I went ahead and cleaned it up and made it look pretty. ;)
