My factory Oil filter housing cap has the same cage holder tabs and no 'bumps' , just like my BMS one.
E90 335i N54 ,

You should take a photo because that does not sound correct. I just got the aluminum version from üro and it does have 3 bumps.

I had purchased the BMS cap a few months ago. But then I saw the Uro all-aluminum one at ECS for not too much money so I bought one too. Installed it today when I did the oil change. Since the Uro comes with the metal cage intact I consider it a win.

As far as I recall its literally identical to the OEM one down to the way the center column locks into it! Just had to clean up some rough edges left from the casting process but that took 5 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised by it honestly. FYI they also make a nice aluminum power steering pulley for cheap which is only 1 oz heavier than the plastic one
No issues ?
I ask because I ordered one and am a little worried about putting it on. Pics show cage sits higher (in the pic, but its upside down so actually sits lower), filter is all the way down. Pulled the cage with filter attached to verify.

Your new filter has a rubber base, which is not present in the stock filter. That is why it sits higher. The height difference is exactly the size of the rubber base.

... which brings us to what filters one should (should not) be running ...

Maybe it's this causing the lift of filter? The nubs from the center cage.see pic circled in red.

Yes, the nubs hold it up. If those were flat the filter would be the same height as the other. However, it wouldnt change the fact that the cage still sits higher (or lower, depending on how you view the pic.)
See pic #1 above.

There is no rubber base. Both filters are identical, both same brands.
I usually use Mann, but they were out of stock so I used Beck Arnley. No issues in the stock cap / cage.

I will do a video review and comparison this week end when I change oil for tuning session.
I have this uro unit also, but have not installed it because don't need to change the oil. I suppose now, I need to do this.

Answered that above. I dont want my old cap to break. I tried pulling the cage but too much resistance and dont want to get stuck without a car.
Can you post pics of the metal one then and maybe someone else can provide the plastic cap ones? Going to be impossible to figure it out without knowing what we’re dealing with.

The pic is posted above. U can see how the filter is seated all the way down, and the last pic shows it in the cap. I may just try and pull the old cage off again and if it breaks, fuck it......just to compare. Contacted ECS and they are looking into it as they already received the pics as well and are thinking it may just be a defect. They said they have no problem shipping a new one out after seeing the pics. I just asked if they could measure the factory one vs the metal one since they stock both to see where the issue is. They said most of the team members are still working from home but were going to see what they can do. Ill wait for a phone call n see what happens.

and the pressure release on the factory is easy to see how it works. The aluminum one I dont understand whereor how it open. Travel is much less also. Pics attached are closed, then open.
