Anyone know what is special about it? Aside from the fact that BMW charges $600 for it?

It's a liquid filled mount that uses magnetized fluid. The mount is electromagnetic and the DME actually stiffens the mount as load increases (sort of like manga-ride shocks). That way at idle, and cruise, you have a very pliable rubber mount that gives great NVH but when you are really pushing the car you have an extremely rigid stiff mount that gives better performance.

@doublespaces can explain more I think

I hope this is a joke... e9x doesn't have those fancy dynamic motor mounts that some of the GT series P-cars have.

Huh? I didn't understand your post. The above is the part number for the passenger side factory BMW motor mount for the 331is and the Z4 35is. BMW list price is $681 for that mount. I'm trying to understand what is special about that mount? Seems like Porsche pricing ...

You use to be able to buy the rein ones from FCP, they were alot cheaper.
I believe they are slightly firmer than a stock 335i mount, highly doubt they are worth the current price, standard 335i mounts are good imo.

Rein is cheap cost wise, but that's the standard 335i mount. I'm wondering what's so special about the 335is mount. I assume it is stiffer, but I can't imagine the $681 price tag for slightly harder durometer rubber on one motor mount?

My 034 mounts have been great plus they were cheap. i bought them when i could have had is mount for 200 but i wanted something little stronger and i the guy with stock diff bushings cause i worried about gear whine, meanwhile my sub frame and diff have been out of the car more times then I've changed my oil

I thought they had worked out the problems with the 034 mounts. I saw a bad thread and figured they couldn’t all be bad or they wouldn’t make them anymore. They looked good and were a good price so I gave them a try. They didn’t even make it 100 miles. This is my passenger mount, driver side was okay when I removed it. ECS refunded my money.

Question that obviously shouldn't happen but while it's bolted in if torqued down to spec would the cup still pre load the mount and essentially not affect function. If that's case it is very possible every mount is failing on install or right away and just no one realizes except extreme diy guys that pull it out again shortly after.
