Hello Spoolers,

What all do you guys think about running a Water/Meth/Alcohol injection system?

Q: Are you running a system like this?
Qa: How do you like it?
Qb: How worth the purchase was it?

Q: How does the performance gains effect drive-ability?

Any / All feedback is appreciated!

Thanks again
Derek

Q1. Yes
Q2. Incredibly effective at keeping IAT issues non existent. Also allows for small buffer for fueling if needed.
Q2b. It was an expensive kit but felt was one of the "no compromise" type of modifications to ensure risk/reward worth it. System was also built and designed for the N54 motor (HFS4).

Q3. System is currently set to spray at ~4k rpm and then progressively spray more as RPM's climb. Daily putzing around town it is idle until I'm ready to push the car. When it hits, it hits hard, and the linear acceleration curve instantly spikes 15-20% higher.

If you have access to E85 and the needed fueling upgrades WMI is not desired.

BUT the fueling requirements do need to be TBI, PI, or a HPFP upgrade. :)

I would expect a proper WMI setup to start around $550 with a 2 nozzle setup. Note that WMI isnt can be dangerous due to it being a high maintenance item - purging, cleaning, filling, mixing, etc.

Now Direct Port WMI is another story but that is a $900+ setup with the anti-siphon elbows.

So, the main reason why I keep coming back to this is because it seems like a really effective upgrade for both reliability and power but, I have no plans of doing this anytime soon. 1000$ could go much further for me in other upgrades but, it is something I like to think about for the "long run" game.

I am currently running WMI as well. Using dual CM7 nozzles on the charge pipe, the kit I had purchased came with a single CM10 nozzle, but from prior research I decided to purchase two 7's for better atomization.

I have it setup just as Burger Tuning has it laid out, I went with Burger's kit as I have JB4 and setup and install was a breeze. I was running a 100% methanol when the summer heat was in full swing and was very happy with how it performs. It is setup to come on at 10psi of boost. The FSB controller does the rest of the work.

It is a bit dangerous, I had a "mishap" at the drag strip during a 3-4th gear shift, where I believe some Meth had pooled and caused a backfire in the intake manifold, virtually splitting it in two and ruining my night. I have since been using a 50/50 water/methanol mix with mixed feelings about it, the instantaneousness (if that is a word) of the power when injection is happening isn't what I remember it feeling like on 100% Meth. I blame myself for going with 100% off the bat, as I could only be let down after mixing water in with it hahaha.

But, here in Canada, there isn't much of an option for e85. The only place it can be purchased locally is at a speed shop, otherwise I am faced with an hour and a half drive to get some. By the time I would have returned I would be at a half a tank of fuel. As well, speed shop e85 is at a premium as well.

Drive-ability is virtually unphased, mind you it is quite tempting to lean into the throttle to feel the sudden difference in acceleration. When first installed I was using about a gallon a week. But the cooler months are here now and on the road usage of it isn't a requirement for fun (iat's sitting around 42f) so it is turned off for the time being.

Also, considering the cost at which it takes to outfit your car to be e85 ready, methanol is a cheaper option. The overall benefits are not the same, I get that, but cost-benefit wise it is a viable choice.

Are you running NLS? That seems to be the most popular reasoning for the backfire and breaking of the intake manifolds.

I'm currently running 93/meth and very happy. I'm Using jb4/MHD tune, with the jb4 controlling boost and meth. The jb4 paired with the fsb is a failsafe that truly works. Using map 3 in jb4 you can raise boost when meth flows and if there's any issue with the flow or you run out ect, it'll reduce boost. It's a progressive system. You are also able to adjust when meth kicks in as mine is at WOT only.

Down fall though is when running upgraded turbos the map has a ceiling of 25.3ish psi which you can't go above. BUT at the same time on pump gas you probably don't want much more than that anyways. I am using a single cm10 nozzle with the injector located in BMS's meth elbow between my FMIC up pipe and charge pipe. I use 2 gallons of boost juice and add one bottle of heet in to that mixture. So probably right around 51meth/49water without doing any math. I was able to dyno 586whp on this setup. I chose this because e85 isn't local to me on the east coast and if I traveled for it and stored it wouldn't be ideal with the shelf life being so short.

@TurboMike Yes, I remember now that NLS was on, and is probably the cause.

What is this HEET stuff your speak of?
It's a gas line antifreeze. It's pure methanol. Make sure you get the yellow bottle and not the red bottle though. If you have doubts on which your buying read the back of the bottle and the first ingredient will be methanol on the yellow and the red I believe alcohol. It's the most readily available as pretty much any store whether auto parts, Walmart, grocery store ect will have it.

Just go to any hardware store & buy a 1 gal jug of 100% meth for around $10.
Then go to the grocery store & buy distilled water to make your mix any % you want.

It allows people like myself who don't have access to E85 to run higher boost. I've never regretted the purchase once. But if you're going do it, do it right. Have a port injection setup made for it, not a firehose CP setup.

I like my HS4 kit. Seems to work well. Install is a bit complicated but nothing the average DIYer can't do. I went with the howerton tank set up. It costs a bit but looks & functions great.
