This was a custom 1 piece hub with a brand new oem slip disc and brand new bolt, I personally run the vtt spline lock and never had any issues. We are looking into fitting the spline lock to his car but not sure it will fit as he has a custom billet crank.

I spun the hub in my 1M when doing a log. At the time had hybrid twins with around 25 psi on E85. Was lucky that it was only a partial spin and the car just simply turned off and I had a heap of timing codes. We put a new timing set in it and its been fine ever since. Also have the VTT spline hub and the front plate as well

Custom hub and still spun the revised slip disc or what ever its called into a 100 pieces.

Vargas spline lock on its way, this is the only solution that I seen work without a single failure to date,
which will be used on this beast from now on.

Why not pinned ?

I've seen pinned hubs shear of on other non n54 platforms and I'm not convinced they are a solution, this revision of spline lock has had no failure to date and 1 questionable failure on the v1.

Stick to the one solution that hasn't failed.

Drilling a crank introduces a failure point on the crank as it makes it weaker, seen crank snouts shear off on other platforms in high rpm setups like this car has as its got a vac stage 3 head and shrick stage 2 cams revving to 8000rpm plus.

If the pinned setup was cheaper I'd consider using it on a stock head and cams but not here.

I can't speak for the vtt spline lock (haven't seen it), but I agree pins and/or shaft can still shear with enough force. A well designed spline should be stronger than pinning.

This thread has officially ruined my car for me! I'll never be able to drive it again. Thanks guys.
Just to haunt you a bit more. This recently happened to my good friend who ran the new updated oem hub.

Doesn't hurt to have it just in case the bolt did back out, prevention is cheaper than cure.

vtt spline lock and cbc installed and the car is finally running like a dream up to 6500rpm but now we need to sort out the misfire
on cyl 5 and most likely the root of spinning the hub in the first place if we want to hit 8000rpm target.

If any car can push the limits of any product its our single turbo 135i, it breaks everything.

I just found this thread after my crank hub spun on a circuit racing, It's a 335i N54 MT. So after I read all your posts the best solutions now should be updated OEM Hub or VTT Hub + CBC. Do you know if there's something else I need to check? like how to know the crank surface is acceptable? If I use a VTT Hub should I use the old or new oil sprocket version? I already purchased part 11418091535 (I believe the new version is wider)

I've been running the VVT spline lock for 2 years now at 650whp with no issues. I had the oem one slip and luckily didn't blow the engine, just an expensive timing job.
