Not to digress, but it's not like VTT is fabricating 02 sensors in their shop. Do we know why they are no longer being sold? Manufacturer availability?

Filippo

I was told they have sold literally 1 set since being released so from a business stand point it’s just no longer viable.

And I think you mean knock sensors :smirk:

On Knock Sensors, I wouldn't trust anyone to MFG them but a real electronics manufacturer. And frankly I find it more plausible that VTT just looked through a parts catalog and found something based on a few specs they came up with.

And for the stock ones and 'false knock'.
Has anyone played with bolt TQ? Bolt material? Adding a fiber/plastic washer to the top side (between sensor and bolt head)?

Also, I highly doubt anyone can actually "hear" knock. Or have any way to correlate it to a position or cylinder.
You may hear a resonate frequency, but the actual impact, not a chance. The Doppler Effect plays a part here.
Now if you're running that sound through a sound card and looking at the waveform, then you might have something.
Some guy with a pair of headphones on, LOL. Nope.

@iminhell1 build a motor and run some cams, when your stuck holding your dick in your hand and you will don't come asking for help.

No wonder vendors keep their mouth shut, I think I have to learn that starting now.

Good luck guys.

Not sure what point your trying to make, listening for knock is a standard practice and really not that hard.

It's only been done for at least 70 years ... but yeah turns out no one can hear anything lol

Well glad Marty is no longer blaming schrick for his knock.

Knock sensors do just listen for knock and yes you can hear it. The complexity comes in them turning off during the initial ignition of the fuel and relating the time of a knock sound to the cylinder that's burning fuel.

I never said I wasn't blaming them.

Its a solution to a problem that's related to the cams.

I never had any knock what so ever with stock cams, one of the cleanest motors built here in Australia,

Its not the cams that are causing the knock itself but something is not playing nice because of them.

I feel/think that the valve springs aren't strong enough for them and will need to be upgraded even though schrick thinks the stock
ones are sufficient, talking to a number of engine builders they feel the same way I do.

More testing to be done.

If the valve springs were the issue it would be noticeable as you increase the revs (6000+ rpms).

Tricky one. Cams do interact with so many other variables. A little more spring rate might not hurt. Its definately more work for the stock springs than factory. Couple this with lots of these cars have done kms too. Valve train parts don't last forever.

I will say that the stock valve train on the N54 is really trick for a stock engine and I can see why Schrick suggest no upgrade is needed. There are some stupid power N54 single turbos running around without valve float and bounce on stock valve train, that would see a bunch of lesser brand motors have valvetrain implosions on without serious upgrades.

The thing is when a system like mine from inlet to exhaust is totally unrestricted unlike most will see things work beyond what they were designed for.

Time will tell just waiting on parts

The N53 head uses the same valve springs, retainers, lifters and rollers as the N54 head.
You sure about that? I could be wrong but I thought Cobra Marty proved they were slightly different, they don't have the same lift/rocker ratio. I might be thinking of N52 though.

The rocker is the same and springs too but the valves are different as they are bigger on the n53

The head differences play a part in this too.

I'll get around to this one day.
