Head porting or using N53 head definitely more bang for the buck. Not much difference between low lifts and high lifts. Depends on whether you want to do the whole valvetrain or not. I wanted to stick with stock N53 valvetrain so went with low lift cams.

Does High lift conflict with N53 valvetrain? I chose high lift but decided to stay with ported N54 head. Did not pay any attention about valvetrain fitment

No Hydra Performance offers a full build for N53 but I didn't need the extra performance given speccing for pump 93 only

Was shooting for N53 head but ended up with porting my stock head at home(quite a torture, will never do it again). Saved some bucks for my ductile iron sleeves. Hopefully it works at least 70% as a ported n53 lol

@fmorelli might be able to weigh in on increases of ported N54, I know he did his when he added HP650 twins.

Not sure of you've seen this, but here's a good thread with results on ported head. Looks like an awesome mod!

these data sheets are the schrick version of the camshaft which the bmw community decided to call "high lift".
the low lift version from thread title was made by schrick for VAC with their specification, which differ from the attachments in lift and duration, slightly.

I stand corrected, VAC decided to call them "high lift" and "low lift".

I wrote to Schrick technical support last year looking for cam lift profiles for engine simulation work I was doing and they provided the cam sheets Hydra posted along with some more detailed lift profile data I was after. I also asked about piston/valve clearance with their design across the full VANOS range of movement and this was the reply;

"In general you should always check valve-piston clearance after change the camshaft.
But we made the design by using full Vanos range, it should fit.
We never had any feedback, that it would not fit.
we made the 268°/264° version out of our experience.
For example VAC want to have a different setup and we produced a custom version for them 268°/268° with different lift.
So think VAC sells this combination."

Its probably worth starting a new thread and compiling all the known camshaft data in one place, there are currently 5 sets of aftermarket camshafts available that I know of, 4 of which have basic data sheets publicly available. If i find some time will post them up.

Hello, I'm new to this lovely community and I have a series of doubts.

I'm in the middle of a project to swap my 325i e92 n53b30 to a 335 n54b30. It turns out that the camshafts of the N54b30 are dead. Can I use the camshafts from the N53b30 engine?

I've read that it's possible to install an N53 cylinder head with adaptations. Do you know the approximate cost and if it would be profitable in terms of power? I have 17t turbos installed.

Thank you and I hope you can help me.
Best regards!

are the low lift scruck or the n53 cams giving lower torque liw en 1600-2500 rpm?
us turbo lag increased on stick turbos?
any worth to do cams on stock n54 engine and turbos?

Not worth it to do head work unless you have turbos to push it IMO. Cams go with ported or N53 heads for increased air flows allowing lower boost for same power and less resistance at higher rpms.

Low lifts do work and offer a nice bump in power on stock head with less boost, the problem is shrick don't make them anymore.

Stage 2's are too much unless your going to go all out and build the whole motor, the raised rpm limit that these cams need to make power will rip the stock block apart in due course.

Save your self the money and issues that arise from big cams and spend the money on other parts to go faster if needed.

All out power is not everything.

Low lifts were such a nice middle ground.

But I still would not recommend them, the gain vs cost arent worth it I would rather just run more boost.

Save the money and put it into a single turbo setup, far better bang for buck.

Hello peeps, thinking about upgrading cams on my stock block stock head N54, will I need to change lifters or anything else in the valve train?

Schrick is a well known name and a big brand in Europe. They know their stuff. Major part of their products are made for street use. So the product has to fit the stock parameters, no doubt to me.

However, its not worth to point fingers on each others (because of a 0,5mm lift variance):) I am more interested in further results. You said you are chasing missfires which you have fixed already, right. Time to turn it up now...

wait, let me get the popcorn first
Amen!
