Nice build!

Thanks mate. Work on the car stalled for a while there. I had the money ready for the cage to be fitted, but Covid caused a massive delay in getting it made and delivered. In that time the girlfriend and I decided it was time to move (benefit is a heated garage) and I used the cage money to renovate the flat (and then some ha 😭).

Looking forward to driving it again, although the exhaust only gives around 3" of clearance so no speed bumps for me 😂

What's your current 1/4 mile target?

I have DCT so launching sucks balls but I managed a 11.6 at 124mph so far.

Low 11's would be nice. The last 1/4 mile I ran was full weight stock tune. I've changed that much I really dont know what to expect.

Tbh mate I need to create a definitive plan so I can at least run it next year. I keep adding work (and money) to the project. Prime example is those Welds. I initially looked at E39 calipers and E92 328i discs to fit them, then I seen VTT do a light Willwood set up, so I'm going for those. More money, more time to save the money. Then I realised I'll need Mag style lug nuts for the welds. Priced up titanium studs/nuts vs steel and they're only around £70 more, so I'm going for those. More money, more time 😂 it'll be never ending if I let it.

What spec is yours mate?

Mine is a 2011 335is full weight.
19T Turbos
FBO
E45 fuel
DCT with xHP Stage 3 tune

Few other minor things but that is most of it.
Just ran the standing half mile on un prepped surface at 149mph.

I looked into Titanium studs and saw a guys wheel pop off at the drag strip. That was enough for me to stick to steel :)

Since the last update I've just been tidying the wiring, tracing and completely removing any that aren't used (which is a lot!).

I also made up some bumper shutters and fitted those as well as some quick release bumper fittings for ease of loading on and off a trailer.

IMG_20210406_160122.jpg

I encountered a problem with the quick release fittings. I stupidly didn't realise you need a few mm gap between the bodywork fitting and the bumper. I used the headlight support arm and unfortunately the plastic sits flush with the bumper meaning when connected the bumper sat a good few cm out from the wing, it looked awful.

IMG_20210406_160352.jpg

This was my hack job work around. Cut some 0.9mm steel into shape and recessed it with a bolt and a few nuts. Works well so I was happy.

And I also removed the oil cooler. I've kept it in case I want to refit. Really tidies the engine bay up. It desperately needs a wash in there as well.

Nice, looks good. When is track day?
Thanks man! Not too sure tbh mate. The Covid restrictions are still pretty tight in Scotland so I don't even know if Crail will be open. Even if it were I'm way behind schedule, I'll hopefully get to a few events by the end of summer. Really want to see how my 1/4 time has improved and where I stand with my low 11's goals.

How are things over the pond with the Covids? Are your tracks opening back up or are things still quite tight?

I just pulled the car out of storage and driving slow looking for any issues from redoing all the fuel system over the Winter. I just started with a new tuner as well so it will be a while before I get to the track.
Signed up for a half mile event in August already though. My 1/4 mile goal is low 11's as well so I will post here if I make it there.
We are getting a 4th wave and variants of the stains so they may start locking us down agian.

You got any pics of the car would love to see it. It's amazing the niggles that can appear while the car just sits, good idea taking it slow. Hopefully you hit your goal mate, definitely keep us updated on your progress.

We're supposed to be easing out of lockdown come the 26th, so hopefully ill at least get to a few events if I get my shit together and pull my finger out

Good news regarding potential track days. Ill hopefully be attending Crail on the 6th of June. Bad news is my cage wont be in, I'll be running Uniroyal Rainsports and I have no safety equipment in the car bar the OEM seat and belt (Roadkill do it so it's fine). Im itching to get out, do a few logs and see how it's looking. Stretch the old girls legs and if the initial logs look healthy see the results of my work with a solid pass.

I've been doing odd jobs on the car between tidying the wiring and removing the glue from the sound deadening. One of those was to fit my fibreglass headlights. Fibreglass is never perfect but I managed to get the fit just about bang on. It sits too far in at the bottom of the headlight support leaving a wee gap between the headlight and bumper but that's an easy fix. I eyeballed it out of sheer laziness (and daftness). Tomorrow I'll refit the headlight then outline where it sits on the headlight support bracket, elongate the holes I drilled on the support to give some movement, refit the fibreglass headlight, line it up and tighten it all down. I'll also spray the stainless steel brackets black.

I wish I could say it's coming together but it really isn't. I've somewhat lost my way and the cars turning into a full race/not quite full race Frankenstein mcclusterfkuck. Life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes, but im still loving going out, cracking a beer, sticking on some metal and tinkering away.

Thanks for the update. I have not made it to the track yet as well.
You on track to have it ready for the half mile event in August? Meant to ask as well, what changes to the fuel system are you doing? I plan on going E50 at some point but I'm not too clued up on the fuelling side of things.

Spent a few hours in the garage to get this finished so I can get back to the wiring.

I'm really chuffed with the fitment of the headlights. It took some tweaking but I think I managed to get both fitting as close to OEM as I could.

I decided to go full polycarbonate glass all round, it's around £550 for the front doors, quarters and rear so I thought the windscreen wouldn't be much. Turns out it costs over £500. As the glass comes out for the cage install I'm going to wait until I have the polycarb windows before booking the cage in.

Glad to see you're making progress. I reached this point as well and just decided to go full race. That's why it's not completed yet....

If you want to go lexan www.plastics4performance.com makes drop in replacements for E90 and E92's. I plan on getting their set for my E90 when the time comes.

Yeah Fuel system is done. I think my fuel system can handle over 1000hp now. I will be ready for sure. Only thing I am doing is new tune. Unless some $$$ falls out of the sky.

Yeah I'm pretty much at full race mode now as well. MOT laws have changed in Scotland and although I can get a dodgy MOT the car it would be impounded and I'd lose my licence if a traffic cop pulled me over for an inspection.

Plastics4performance is exactly who I'm going for for my polycarbonate windows. I nearly pulled the trigger a few months back but wasn't decided on the windscreen so held off. I was about to pull the trigger the other day until I seen how expensive the windscreen is 😂 I also want to fit fibreglass doors, bonnet and trunk lid this year if I can manage.

Excited to see what you run. Hopefully 10's lol.

I'm getting back to mine this year finally. Ordered the standalone, display, CAN keypad, and various sensors the other day and I'll tinker with getting the engine idling before it goes back to the shop next year to complete all the fab work.

Is that pump gas or ethanol mate? I'm looking at removing the OEM fuel tank and fitting a 3 gallon fuel cell. However, like I said I'm not too clued up on the fuel system so will need to start reading up more on it. Sounds like you're creating an amazing base for the car to be turned into something awesome.. well, awesomer 😂

I run an E50 mix right now but I can do full Ethanol. I will give you a quick over view.
Primary pump is a Walbro 535 and secondary is a 450 on 15psi Hobbs switch. Then -6an lines thought entire system. Next is hits a 100 micron filter, then a Bluethooth E analyzer. Then I have a Port injection plate with Bosh 550's and the plate has a Fuel Pressure Regulator that bleeds off at 73 psi back to the tank.
Only thing I might do is change the stock in tank FPR for a drop in one and increase the Bosh injector size.
