Hey guys,
because i tested my set quite a lot now and i am 100% satisfied, i would like to introduce a new clutch Option for N54 (N55 soon) which i think is one of the best Solutions out there:
Since i had my car i had too much different Options of flywheels and clutches which all didnt worked as advertised:
- 3 335is/550i Clutches with 2 Oem DMFW and 1 SMFW: 1 335is clutch slipped with stock turbos, the DMFW was renewed when i didnt thought about upgrade Turbos but started to make noises again after around 5.000KM with full maxed out stock Turbos (750NM approx.)....
After that i went with a SMFW and a new 335is clutch and because i did an Turbo swap in winter 2016 i decided to install a new IS clutch once again (didnt want to cut costs and then have to do the Job again). 5.000KM later the new IS clutch slipped....
So i wanted to install a bulletproof Option. I got an 6 pad sinter clutch from a german shop which "upgraded" IS Pressure Plate.
Unfortunately after pulling the Transmission i saw that my SMFW was in a really bad condition: The spigot was destroyed and the flywheel had a lot of hotspots from the slipping clutch.
I spoke to PTB (Producer of the flywheel) and we agreed on my buying an upgrade DMFW with 6 Pad Sinter Clutch and the same Pressure plate.
3.000KM after install the clutch slipped again and i had misfires on higher rpms which came from the flywheel.
That´s how i got to the new Option i want to tell you about:
It is a Custom SMFW with "external" Spigot (hardened and other material than the flywheel), 2 organic clutch discs (Little bigger Diameter than s55) and sachs Pressure Plate without SAC (because SAC is shit imo).
3 different Options:
- 1.000NM Version with "normal" Sachs Pressure Plate
- 1.400NM Version with Sachs Performance Pressure Plate (harder Pedal)
- 1.800NM Version with Sachs Performance Pressure Plate and 2 4 Pad Sinter Clutch Discs (not for daily/street driving recommended!)
Advantages are:
- Fully balanced (not only the flywheel)
- moving off is as good as it can be because of the two organic clutch discs
- with the 1.000NM Version, which i have at my car atm, the pedal Feeling is a Little bit harder than oem but imo perfect. Also the clutch seperates very early on the pedal, so shifting without bog is easier than ever.
- "Standard" wear parts: Clutch Discs and the Pressure Plate are Standard items which you can get on almost every 0815 spare part store.
I am located in Germany so if anybody is interested we have to see, how we could do that with shipping. But i would love to hear another Feedback here on the Forum, because i am sure that this clutch is one of the best if not the best Option for high powered N54 cars!
Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
