(Update : Around 530hp mainline hub or 600hp on dyno jet you will get false knock and missfires on a oem dmfw. If you are under 500hp its ok. You need a single mass over 530hp is what I found)

I bought another N54 and needed a new clutch. (I have nothing to do with this company just happy I have a twin plate and its quite and I cant tell the difference of just having 550i clutch in it)

I had a spec twin plate in my 335i 8-9 years ago it was very noisy and made driving the car embarrassing with the rattling and was difficult to drive.

I have seen similar experience with extreme twin plate and all other twin plate clutches accross other platforms.

I came accross the reviews on a clutch called uni clutch being quiete and easy to drive. This clutch is a new concept that does not use the flywheel to engage and disengage. Sounds weird, yea it is.
It can be used on a dual mass or single mass flywheel.

What you can get for n54 is a uniclutch 1320nn or 980ftlb rated clutch.
You can literally use the clutch like normal even while at idle you can let the clutch out without any shuddering.
The clutch gearbox or whatever rattles does not rattle it is silent.

The days of noisy difficult twin clutches are gone.

Heres video of mine installed. Im pushing the clutch in and out. You can here it engage and disengage but otherwese its silent.

Part number for clutch UC0821200
Cost $1316 aud
Part number for N54 install kit UCFK-08273-A-001
Cost $204 aud

Looks good dude. Would they still be quiet with a SMF? I think the SMF causes most of the annoying noises in 53BZ applications. The usual twin plate rattle with clutch pedal in is very minor in comparison to our SMF gear chatter IMO.

In all the reviews they are quite.
It has in built dampeners.

If I make enough power to get false missfires from dmf ill get a smf and find out for sure.

Nice @Brule! I've been very curious about these ever since I saw this Motive vid:

If my xclutch ever dies, I am 100% going to run one of these.
Would love to hear from someone what the difference between this and the xclutch organic is, function and drivability

Over the last 40k miles my xclutch has started getting noisier, it was virtually silent for about 20-30k miles. Still works great though.

Im sure these will become the new go to clutch. Not just for n54.

Drivability is really like a 550i clutch.

This supra has a single mass flywheem and is silent.

Ive just done over 1000km on it.
Its much better then spec twin plate and dont have to worry about any noises.
Just went to dyno on made 340kw on pump fuel.
Was yours cheaper then getting a 550i clutch?

I want to put in a single mass flywheel as well just need to find one that would work with the stock style clutch because i believe that what this setup is.

Spec,LUK and mfactory have single mass that work with stock clutch pattern that you need.
Theres plenty to choose from.

Well, its installed and I have about 100 miles on it, impressions so far - pedal pressure it a touch heavier than stock, there is virtually no chatter only time I can hear it is in 1st at super low RPM where the motor is starting to bog (like maneuvering in a parking lot) - other than that no noise while engaged or when the pedal is depressed. Il take it easy while the clutch breaks in then romp on it and see how it performs.

Thanks for sharing Hoobie/Brule, I’ve been waiting for some real world feedback with this clutch for a while - most of the YouTube content (except Brule’s) seems to be sponsored and holds little value.

So the pedal is a little heavier than stock? How is the engagement once broken in?

My 550i setup is performing well but I don’t see it holding next summer when I switch the meth on with my Hydra 650’s.
But this is my daily driver and I sit in highway traffic most days so I‘ve been looking for the best clutch to try.

Which single mass did you go for Hoobie?

Yes, the pedal is slightly heavier but its barely noticeable (to me a least) - what is more noticeable is that the pedal pressure is consistent thru the entire travel - it doesn't get light at full extend.

I can't speak to engagement after break in just yet, but I can feel the increased clamp force especially when I'm stuck in traffic at low speeds - but don't worry it's not a light switch for now it still has a progressive engagement - time will tell how it is after break-in.

Also, I forgot to mention the clutch engages higher than factory so there is less pedal travel needed to shift - it's not at the very top but noticeably higher than stock - I did hear that also may change after break.

I got impatient :yum: and couldn't make a decision so I kept my factory dual mass for now - if I get false knock problem after I go bottom mount this winter Il pull the trans out again and replace it with a single mass.

I'd argue the inbuilt dampening/springs would make it slightly smoother to operate than an xclutch. An unsprung clutch is a bit jumpier than a stock sprung style one.

Very keen to see if it's similarly quiet with a single mass in front of it. Don't want to pull another gearbox, but I'd do it for a huge reduction in chatter while generally retaining all the other good bits about a decent twin plate clutch.

Thought id throw in my 2 cents.

Did a manual swap on my 335d and decided to use the uniclutch track with a smf. Can confirm it chatters, loud enough to hear it through the centre console. Have to raise the idle rpm to 850 to quiet it down a bit. Sounds like a semi truck at low rpm.

I think it will be quieter with a n54 but i dont think it will get rid of it completely.

Good data to hear.

Do you have a video you can put up of the noises?
What flywheel did you use?

Have do you like the drivability?
