Like most Bill was after M Drive, not really MDM.
And yes you do have to wiring to do. It’s all in these threads somewhere. Most likely the @dyezak one where we finally figured out you need all the M3 gear to make it work. Pretty sure it details wiring.

edit: this thread here

Ahhh ok.
I'll have to read back through that and see if I can find how to get the MDM going then. Mdrive would be sweet, maybe some day we will mod deep enough to have it.

Ok, so I used a M3 ABS/DSC unit, reflashed it with my VIN, and by spoofing the VO coded it in. The M3 unit connects directly to the DSC button like a M3 would but the difference with the MDM function as it relates to a M3 is that it's also controlled in part by the M3 DME I believe. In a 1M the DSC goes through the JBBF as a non M 335i does. Now I'm pretty sure I could flash the 1M zb to the DSC, reroute back through the JBBF and have MDM as it relates to the 1M, I even have the IKMOS rom if it plays into it at all but it's just not worth the hassle.

The M3 software is already much looser than the non M software and I've already coded what I can to give me the even looser EU spec parameters. Even with DSC on the tires have no problem breaking loose and it only kicks in when it starts to get a little out of shape. I prefer the simple on or off rather than the intermediate step. With it off you can get full stupid, if that's what you want but with the LSD, sticky tires, and the suspension upgrades and M3 software it's very controllable. I'm enjoying the shit out of this car and setup, and I don't even have a M3 rack in it yet.

Well, I am stuck.

I measured my DCT driveshaft and took my spare 335i and M3 driveshafts to a local company. They noted that the flange was friction welded and won't operate on the driveshaft for safety reasons (balancing). They told me I can send it to DSS in California for a custom build with a CNC'd shaft. They won't move forward with the project. :(

I don't understand how other people are getting their M3 driveshaft shortened?

The other way is to leave that end of the shaft intact and do the cut and shut at the other?
People shorten driveshafts every day I can’t see this being a show stopper. As you said yourself, others are getting it done...

That's such bullshit. Although I used the M3 trans output flange and M3 driveshaft input flange, it balanced perfectly and they knew it was friction welded. Thats how they shortened and reattached the flange, with a friction weld.

I tried explaining that. I don't have other options around here.

For sure, I don't understand their concerns. Perhaps they don't have a friction welder. https://www.facebook.com/Panhandle-Driveline-562941637165674/

Who knows. I contacted DSS to see if they can help.

I welcome any information of shops local to other memebers that I could contact for this work. I am SOL in my area.

My shop would do it in a heartbeat. I only paid maybe $150 at most out the door. I'm in Florida though so depending on where you are shipping could get a little costly but I bet it's still less than a custom driveshaft.

Sheesh that is what I expected from this shop!

I am also in FL, in Panhandle, near Mobile AL.

Not too far, I'm in St Pete

Awesome! I certainly want an M3 cluster from you if I can get this shaft work done. Unfortunately my other car is an i3 with a 100 mile range...

:tearsofjoy:

I could ship these two shafts off to them (or separate the 335i one and just sent the CB to Trans portion) or if you know of another means of assisting with sourcing a 62cm CB<>T shaft made up I am more than happy to fund those endeavors. At a loss with current area.

See, it’s not so bad ! 😉

True. I have been struggling locally to accomplish this and after 2 years of not getting the project done I am a bit fed up. :(

Great info .. i am working on one swap myself from AT to DCT with GTS flash.
But also fixing my engine as i broke a valve and destroyed my head..
I did IKMOS, M3DCS, M3 SLW, M3 GWS, MFactory SMFW, 335i 3.08 LSD w/ 550i cover and DSS 1/2 shafts. Let see how this will work.. N54 is a 3.2L stroked with light internals and high CR, ported head, ferrea valves.. and home made st4 fueling.
Time to put this on the streets again.
