let me know if getting a new adapter works. I’m hoping they switch to Bluetooth adapters soon. Seems like that connection is more reliable.

Okay man so I got the new adapter and it still locks up and Justin at Twisted is now using my old one and says it is working great. He also tested the adapter he sent me before sending it and said it worked perfectly. So I am certain it has something to do with my OBD port, I will dig into when I find time this week and let you know what I find.

I've been using this adapter for a few months now in my z4. It's great but it has its flaws. I am having major issues especially on iphone with it often hanging! also if my car is close to a wifi spot it fails to connect non stop even if the phone is in airplane mode, soon as I drive away from that spot...BAM connection problem gone. if someone jumps into my car weather im using my iphone to connect or my android phone and they have wifi enabled on their phone it causes issues. hangs become every other minute. its very frustrating. I wish it was bluetooth. wifi was a bad idea.

I did set a ip for it as per the instructions. made very little difference.

Bluetooth wouldn't happen with iPhones due to it needing to be validated/approved by Apple ($$$$$$)... Wifi is the way to achieve multi platform adapters...

I have some issues with the wifi dongle, but nothing like these occurances listed in the thread... Sorry for those having problems, when it works it is fantastic! :)

I think these are pretty cool. They make it easier to monitor without a cable flopping around while driving.

I however prefer my old fashioned ancient pro expert kdcan cable. I have an android head unit that I plug into and can flash in 48 seconds with it. No worries about losing the signal mid flash.

yup I have had it fail mid way a few times using this adapter. its been great. Really gives one complete confidence in flashing the car.

I agree... and use both... but my iPhone is drastically faster at everything compared to my Nexus 5, so I tend to use it. Wifi drops are problematic and I've had to retry a couple flashes. It isn't perfect, for sure.

Real time monitoring, toggling MAX COOL... wifi RULES! :)

So yeah, after some investigation, it appears one of the sockets in my OBD port is wore out.

And it is bending the pin as well.

Damn!

My OBD2 port is dangling since I broke the tabs off... 3 or 4 years ago. I need to re-pin it with the connector you highlighted... BUT, I don't have bent pins! That's crazy!

I hope that fixes your issues. Be sure to get a de-pinning tool.

Yeah I hope it fixes it too. I just got a new depinning tool so that will help, lol.

Ever since ios14 update my orange WiFi adapter has basically been useless. It takes three or four tries to connect and then as others have said, drops when I need it the most, while grabbing a log. Really frustrating.

I had changed the ssid and added a password a while ago so it’s not that.

I was reading somewhere for a different product that setting a static ip may help. Has anyone tried that?

My biggest issue has been getting the phone close enough.

I have an automation shortcut that detects connection to the MHD dongle via Wifi and then sets airplane mode, opens MHD... and that tends to work well. I then move the phone inches away from the OBD2 port. :D

Is that automation shortcut something I can do? That sounds promising.

And I would be willing to hold my phone two inches away from the adapter while logging third if that works. I’m desperate lol.

[EDIT] the downside is it won't revert the settings. :p

Hold on. The automation is part of iOS? Thanks btw.

Also, holding twin Che’s from the dongle when connecting actually worked!!

Yup! Shortcuts app. You can trigger all sorts of things or just setup shortcuts to trigger via Siri or on the iOS Home Screen or Notification Center, etc... It's pretty ballin' and there is a gallery of shortcuts as well. :)

I like to trigger my volume to 100% when I connect to car bluetooth, start up Spotify when I get on CarPlay in the i3, etc...

Thanks. The Holding the phone two inches from the adapter technique is working really well.

Awesome! A little ridiculous to do that but at least we don't have wires... and for monitoring/setting 'cooling mode' it tends to work fine for me. Flashing is utmost importance so I will do some ridiculous steps to make sure it works (and it is very fast compared to the wire, so meh?)

Glad you got it working better, at least. :)

Oh snap, this is random, but Bimmercode (iOS app) now supports E9x platform AS WELL as the MHD dongle!

Finally I got through to Bimmer-Connect as MHD had additional contact details for them and a month after my initial email I'm getting a working adapter.
Could you please share those additional contact details for bimmer-connect? I just received an Orange adapter which does not work out of the box, no network appearing...

Would be great to hear from you, thanks!!!!
