F series diff in an E series chassis (M diff)?

So word on the street is that with a cover swap the F chassis diff fits.
That should also mean (with work) the Active M Diff should fit.
Question now becomes how to control it?


Just part shopping, looks like you can pick these up very affordably on the used/salvage market. It's a friendly ratio for us Auto guys.


I have one local that I kinda feel like picking up and playing with, in time. But something in the way of a controller would be nice first.

I’ve always wondered about that because they use the same pinion style. Any idea what needs to happen for axles?

Just from looking at parts & pictures,
You can't use E8x/9x axles.
You can't use F2x axles.
All I can find is F8x axles (2/3/4). And I'll bet they are either too long or short.

Really not sure though.


oofta. looks like used M axles are spendy.

Maybe we could have DSS make us some axles because those are expensive even with an 8.8

At one point back in 2018 I remember seeing a M performance diff upgrade for the E90/E92 and it sold for cheap at one point, but I can’t seem to ever locate one down. Is the F series the only oem option we have now?
