Every time I think about installing catless downpipes I’m always reminded about what a total PITA it is to do it on a 335xi because one needs to drop the subframe. Are downpipes really worth the hassle? You get, what, maybe an additional 20hp?

I actually do have the log. I didn’t think it was the boost pressure in the intake that caused it to explode. The throttle blade closed so the motor didn’t see the boost pressure. Something caused some kind of backfire. Not really sure what still. Port injection wasn’t hooked up or anything.

True. It’s funny to look back at it now. I wish I could have seen my own face. Lol

did it clean the ports of all the carbon build up while it exploded? Kill two birds with one stone LOL

I popped the engine in my Supra while on the dyno, playing with a 100 shot of nitrous on an otherwise stock configuration. The #5 rod let go and punched holes in both sides of the block. :)

The 2jz is known to be pretty bullet proof, but it's not idiot proof. I'd installed the nitrous kit without a window switch, or any other type of safeguard, and went WOT in 4th gear around 2500 rpm. Torque went from sub-50 ft/lbs to 430 ft/lbs within 600 rpm. Kaboom. Long story short, I was able to rebuild with a new OEM shortblock, get the head refreshed, bolt on the mods I wanted (no nitrous this time around) and the car went on to make around 750 bhp.

I tried a new wiring harness setup for my DIY stage 4 (450 + 525). I'll post a thread on it later but when I jumped the hobbs switch as a test, 5 seconds later the EKP was dead.

Sat there cranking the car for 20+ seconds before realizing I had no fuel pressure. Hardwired both pumps and all was good.

Yassss.... And you might as well go ahead and do all the other maintenance that requires dropping the subframe.
Such as... (N55 parts listed)

Here’s another one from me:

I installed new charge pipe and TIAL-Q BOV in April.

Started to get 30FF code in May. Ignored it while I worked on passing OBDII emissions readiness.

Passed emissions with my FlexFuel tune installed. Fast-forward to June. Now it’s time to have fun ... but where’s my boost? Damn 30FF. I should be getting 22-24 psi but only getting 15-16 psi. Turbos spool quickly but clearly not reaching target and throwing 30FFs.

Read all the DIYs and started to first check my vacuum system and operation of the Waste gates using syringe to create vacuum, monitoring vacuum pressures supplied to the waste gates at idle and under WOT with the gauge routed up through the driver’s window, etc.

Removed the DCIs to pressure test the air intake, installed the PVC plugs, when all of a sudden I see these two holes:

LOL!
I forgot to plug the damn meth ports! I’ve been driving like this for two months.

Interestingly, this tells you that stock turbos will still boost 15 psi at 100% WGDC with two holes this large in the charge pipe.
DOH!

Added the plugs and all is well. :relaxed:

Just did another one last night...
70K original miles and 12 years on my 335xi. Time to refresh my front suspension. Using mostly FCP / Lemforder kit. While installing my very first outer tie rod ever I stupidly used my 60 ft lb electric impact wrench to screw on the 21mm bolt. Spun the ball joint. Doh!
(Thank goodness for FCP lifetime warranty!)

What do you mean spun the ball joint? They do move around a bit...just put a jack under it, push it up to the arm to apply tension and snug up the nut.

Just replaced my struts. Didn't notice (even after reading) the washer (1 of 2) stuck to the bearing on the bottom of the mount, until 3 days later when I went to throw away the old ones. Replacing sway bar links right now, in addition to those washers...
