So in early January, @Seb335i asks if I can find him an N54 crank. I get these kinds of various requests from lots of people, and help out when I can. But typically I don't get these questions from someone who knows a lot more about BMW's than I do. Or for that matter, someone who is asking me to find a 50 lb crank and ship it across the Atlantic.

Wait a minute. This makes no sense. There are plenty of N54's in Europe. Cranks should be cheap. And certainly cheaper than shipping one from the USA. Well, Sebastian showed me cranks in europe were 1,500 EU. ouch.

So I'd been eyeing a motor close by, went and picked up a crank and a complete head for really short money. Well we're 90% under Sebastian's pricing, but we have to ship a 50lb crank and have it arrive preferably still in a shipping container.

So now we pack in some bearings, a pound of good coffee freshly roasted from a local buddy, and few other goodies and it hits DHL next week.

Customs will have if for a while now. Coffee inside will make them think crank has been drilled, filled with dope and then capped.

Prolly something I saw on T.V. or something 😐

Coffee in a sealed bag is the key. Coffee filled in the case .... yeah ... might as well just pack crack inside the crank lol

In fact N54 are pretty rare in France and mostly in Europe. Most of the 335 are 335d I know that most Americans don't know how expensive our gas is. In Paris the price for 1 liter of 98 pump gas is €1.602 converted in $ and gal it makes $7.349 for a gallon
Hopefully since 2/3 years E85 is very and "cheap" €0.65 for a liter. That's why now 335i prices are skyrocketing.

E85 prices won't go down in France, gov is just waiting for people to use it more to raise the taxes on it.

French Gov can't rise the taxes on E85 it's an EU regulation.

E85 is heavy subsidized by the EU so in fact from OUR money.
It's very unfair because E85 is not available in The Netherlands.
Next week I will go to Dunkirk so a trunk full with E85 jerrycans is on the way.:sunglasses:
Time for some replenishment.

In fact it's not subsidized it's just a different amount of taxes 0.67€ for the 95/98 pump gas and only 0.11€ for the E85
In France Gas price is (Gas price + TICPE (in French domestic consumption tax on energy products) + 20% VAT)
We now have E85 in each Total gas station.

Yes but missing out on tax income from the E85 is compensated by the EU to the French government.
See it like a reward due to reducing of the emissions (Paris Agreement).
Believe me, the government has to earn one way or the other behind the back of the hard working civilian :)

On Kleinanzeigen there is also an 8b crank for sale for 350 euro. It has a damaged crank pin tho of a journal failure.

I’m surprised he didn’t use Spanish Cedar.

What is the plan for this crank?
Good call. I have way too much of it and, honestly don't like working with it much.

Crank is going into a fresh motor @Seb335i is building. PI, TD04 twins, E85, usual shenanigans
