No, that was obvious

Anyway it was a good reason for upgrading everything.

I would suggest not to continue using 14 degrees at 27 psi with forge pistons because you will be ending doing the same thing (damaging the engine on the long run).

Boost wil be lower as I will switch to TD04 turbo's.
But that combination would not make any harm to the forged internals.
I don't know on what you based this statement.

Btw
I am not speaking for track use intentions

What pistons and rods are you going with ? Closed deck insert or will you run aftermarket sleeves and remain open deck?

Forged internals or not, 14° timing at 27psi is asking for knock on N54 on stock C.R.
IMO, it would still hurt forged internals, after all..... knock is still knock

I've driven the car over a year on this set up. The car was tuned by Ken in combination with flex fuel. On E85 the tune was safe regarding rod knock. On pump fuel the timing advance reduced automatically.

Again, I've never had knock issues and the piston damage was not a result of rod knock.

Got the engine back today from the machine shop.

Next week we will make a start with assembly.
Started today with determining displacement to calculate CR.

32cc on cyl 1 and 6, skimming has been done perfect.😎

Any updates on the progress? I’m looking at doing a very similar build to yours and I’m stuck in the process of selecting pistons rods bearings and whether I should sleeve the block or not

Sorry, time flies. In the mean time I have finished the break in of the engine.
This week I will install the PI manifold and connect the wiring.
Time to turn up the boost.

I went with ductile iron sleeves instead of the OEM cast iron sleeves to increase strength a bit and to maintain a piston diameter of 84.00mm. Closed deck was overkill for my target. I am shooting for 700hp at the crank. In this way I will have enough headroom for the HP800 turbo's.

Very cool build if you don’t mind me asking why are you only going for 700 crank with the hp800s?

Reliable is the key essence now with the build.
Anyway, 700 hp will be quite difficult already to put down on the roads.
It is not a daily car anymore, but I still want to use it to take in on holidays etc.

@nyt you have some info and or clearances regarding the hi/low lift cams with some pistons?
I have the JE Ultra Series 9.5:1 pistons.
Valve pockets are more aggressive but I would like to know what is possible.

Pretty sure the JE will fit whatever
