2018 year of the drivetrain?

People have been making silly power on the N54 platform for years. That's nothing new. 700, 800, 900hp is no shocker. The thing that has gotten very little attention until last year was the drive train. Putting that power down and using it effectively. I think AD and xHP both have gotten the ball rolling last year. AD has some bugs to work out on their 4l kit and xHP basically allowed the 6at to be useful.

This year MHD is bringing out their shift bog elimination and on the DCT side there's some interesting things cooking. I'm really interested to see where this goes.

Even a 3600lb car at 700hp, if you are able to cut a 1.4sec 60ft and shift decently you have a 9sec car. Not to mention if you have more hp than that or less weight. But when you have a 6at that takes .4sec to shift (with xHP stage 3) and you need to go through 3 shifts to complete a 1/4mi you have lost 1.2sec of acceleration time right there! Or the 6mt bogging after every shift...

I think enough smart people have turned their gaze over to the drive train that we will see some interesting things soon.

I hope this year shows some promising stuff. Amazing how much time and money is put into this platform and 9's haven't happened. The closest cars are with powerglide's and that's not realistic compromise for most people.

Agree that the demand is present. Whoever gets to market with a reliable solution for big power on the 6AT stands to make a lot of money. Some of it mine.

Why do people still have shift bog?
Had none since 2014 on cobb ap and past 2 years on mhd.

I'm out of the loop on this. Currently, MHD has a shift bog "fix" checkbox prior to flashing. Is this the same thing or there's a new-ish fix?

The current one only seemed to mitigate it for lower powered cars. It was more of a temporary mask to the problem rather than the be all/end all cure. It will be replaced with that cure.

Thanks Jake. Now back to the thread... anyways what are the options for drive shafts and axles these days? DSS or some other brands?

It should be a very exciting year for us indeed. @jyamona is really pushing this platform forward from the DME side with the upcoming shift bog fix and hopefully 2 step. IMO suspension is the big time killer at the strip, we think of BMW's as very well handling cars. Well handling circuit cars generally have stiffer shocks, higher spring rates, lower ride heights and are rigid. Time to swap the IRS out for a solid axle, ditch the low profile tires and 19" rims for some 16-17" rims with some tires with a sidewall and get some softer shocks and possibly springs to help with weight transfer to the rear.

Ford 9" and a 4 link would really change these things off the line but then it wouldn't really be as nice around town or in the twisties
