So as the title states what tires are you using for you hybrid or single turbo build.
I know the easy response is buy a set of 16s and some drag radials but I'm not a drag racer, yea I will have grip bit it's not my style... Consider my car a "street attack" car lol. It's not all motor it's a little, just about everywhere ..

So I have always ran the PSS in f80 sizes because I get them "free" from work.. although free they just blow bad! I only drive the car in nice weather and it gets parked all winter just about.

Here are my options
-toyo r888r
-pilot sport cups on the rear and PSS up front
-mich 4s's

I'm leaning toward the Toyos, what's y'all experience? I see nothing but rave reviews all over and most the big power ls guys swear by them. I'd even consider an off brand semi slick if someone has tested an put one through it's paces and can back it up, as long as it doesn't look super ricey like a 595rsr lol.. just can't do it look too gay

Ricey or not, on 33psi with a 6466, and antilag my 595rs-rr hook just as well as my 15" et streets do.

Having traction is better than looking like a ricer in a ditch on shit tires. But thats just me lol.

I knew there would be the first reply with someone who had 595rsr's lol. Ricey was the wrong description and apologize lol.

I know they are great tires I just can't get over the look of them which I know isn't everything but for my street car I'm not about it. If it was a dedicated track car and I cares nothing about looks I'd be all over them for the value that they are

595rsr-rr are very good tires. I have ran well over 500whp and hook. Both of the michelins are junk in stock size. you would need a 275 to get some considerable traction. But if you dont want to look ricey go with the less sticky tire or pay 2x the price for the r888's. The r888s work great, just expensive for a tire that lasts 10k or less miles that gets as good traction as a cheap tire. Also the khumo v720 is a great tire for all around traction.

Running MP4S in 275/35/18 out back currently and they hook well but I'm only ~500 whp max.

I'm looking into options as well for a sticky non-R comp street tire as well as I'll be in the 600 ballpark on pump for my DD soon.

What's ricey about 595rsrr?

Great thread to put it all in one place.

Guys I'm so sorry I called them ricey lol!!!!

I think what it is about them is they flame pattern they have it reminds me of tires a friend had on a crx in highschool in the 90's lol I just can't get that image out of my head lol.. I know they're an awesome tire I've watched all the comparison vids out there on them!

Also consider the Yoko AD08R. Pricey but good. Available in a 285/30 which would fit your wheels. While I'm clear how they compared to the MPSS I'm not sure how much better they are than the MP4S, not many reviews out there but they compared well in tire rack testing to the Kook RS3 and Dunlop Star Spec.

Benefit to the Yoko is that despite the R in the name it's actually not a R comp. I refuse to run R comps on the street.

I have 275 rsrr on the rear. With convertible weight and an lsd I've only broke the rear end loose a handful of times in a straight line at 22psi. Problem is they are lumpy now from sitting too long(months) and there is shaking in the cabin which I don't care for. The stickier tires seem to have a tendency to become misshaped easier.

What do you use on the front? I'm considering getting some 275/35 rsrr for the rear and keeping the second pair of 275/35 MP4S for backup fronts.

They are 235's I think, 19's by the way.

I have some hankook v12's as a cheapo replacement to see if the vibration goes away, will tell you how they hold up traction wise when I get them mounted.

Toyo r888r are likely the clear winner for straight line if you arent going drag radials.
Im investigating the Kumho V70A medium compound as a replacement for my rear 285/30/18 AD08R yokos . AD08Rs are excellent (R comp version), I managed a sub 1.7 60ft with them om the way to a 10.7 ET . Thats with boost control in 1st & 2nd. They could be better on the street as the car can break them loose 1st and 2nd rolls.

The Kumho I hear good things about for all round semi. The r888r is probably what I would get if it wasnt for having to occasionally deal with wet roads (they suck). 1/2 mile kings like UGR etc all run the r888r .

I had federals on my old R32 GTR pretty good for the price but, Im not sure if they would hold the power I have .

Curious about how the federals hold up from a dig /60ft or 1st /2nd gear on big power cars?

I've never launched my car from a dig, everything is 3k in 2nd gear or higher. Power depends on how my car is behaving but I've been between 22-24 psi or so, 600's.

I'm starting to worry I've got a bent rod in #5 because I get a regular and really nasty timing correction there and I've had three separate tuners try with essentially the same result. Once I get up to 24+ it's fast but it pulls every degree of timing pretty much.

For a road tyre, if you were avoiding proper r comp semi slicks id give ad08r or rs4 a go. I haven't run the Yoko's but everyone that runs them gives positive reviews. I have run mpss, v12, and rs4 on the road. rs4 easily has the most dry traction, but also starting to head in the direction of r comp semi 's as far as road noise and comfort goes. Everything is a compromise....

Im not at +600whp, but I would say wide cup2s on even wider wheels, or something like RS4 if you care more about steering feel than comfort.

I personally use PS4 for wet time attack competitions instead of cup2. They offer a wide temperature window, and basically grip from lap number 1, even in the rain. I tried running R compounds in the wet before, and the grip was super unpredictable. The stiff sidewalls of R compounds are also a disadvantage in the wet. You want slow inputs, and gradual loss of traction in the wet.

On the street and for occasional dry track practice I currently use AD08R as also suggested above. They don't grip as well in the rain and obviously hydroplanes more easily than PS4, but they feel much better to drive at the expense of some comfort. The steering response is much sharper than PS4 due to the harder sidewalls, but of course they also produce a bit more road noise and less comfort. Cup 2 tires are somewhere in between PS4 and AD08R in this regard, but is more of an R-compound than AD08R. Cup 2s have more ultimate dry grip and melts much more easily on track.

I would never pick the r888r for the street. It is just too noisy, and what for really? On the track it also far from the fastest R-comp, yet hardly lasts very long, so again, what for? I also wouldn't put different tires front and rear, because you might end up with one axle being inside its temperature window while the other is outside (such as cup2 vs ps4 on a very cold/rainy day). This could lead to some nasty surprises I imagine. For 600whp I would say wide cup2s, preferably on oversized wheels to stretch them out good, is the minimum. The reason I say oversized wheels, is because they need the strech to stiffen the sidewall. Or you could go up to a stiffer R compound that still offers some comfort over r888r. I haven't tried them myself, but Hankook RS4 should be an option to consider. On the other hand AD08R is a step down in terms of grip compared to cup2, but definitely worth considering over PSS/PS4 for dry use, and because they just feel more responsive to drive than any of the Michelins.

@Asbjorn have you noticed a temp window difference between ps4s amd AD08R?

Also want to clarify you are talking about the Pilot Sport 4S (ps4s) and not PS4 as they are different tires altogether.

The 4S don't come in 18in in China, so I never tried the S version. Only tried cup2 and ps4 from michelin. PS4 and PS4S are supposed to be equally good in the rain which is what I use them for.

From what I am told, the ps4s will overheat much sooner than AD08r in the dry, but I obviously haven't tested this myself.

From a subjective perspective, the AD08r feels better on a dry track than even cup2s. PS4 feels floaty and disconnected in comparison, so it must be similar with ps4s. On the street I prefer great steering feel over all weather performance, so I choose AD08r and save the ps4 for wet time attacks. This in the same way I also sometimes run stiffer front sway bar settings on the street than on the track because I just like how it feels to drive.

I had the rs-rr's and they were fantastic on the street for the first 4000 miles. Would hook 2nd gear roll. HP not known but trapped 126. They developed a terrible vibration which I thought was front tires, guibo, you name it. No idea why they were so bad, but they turned pretty much overnight. Hopefully just a fluke, but I replaced them with Michelin pilot super sports. Terrible tire that spins like crazy on even a 3rd gear roll. I really want to get some 17s for the rear but they're are very few 17 inch options for a wide tire.

I ran Hankook Evo2 because that was what was available in the size when I ordered my wheels. They were predictable and behaved well, but I only got 8k miles out of the rears on FBO and I'm easy on my car (no drag, no burnouts). How the heck you guys are getting the kind of mileage you are on sticky tires is beyond me. I like the idea of the RS-RR.

We're in the middle of complete suspension and brake replacements on my car - I am seriously considering the RS-RR when we get the rest of everything installed.
