anyone have a photo of the bottom side of the dinan intake box lid, the carbon fiber one? Just curious what the webbing looks like under it that looks like.

I mean the webbing to hold the intake filter, the stock airboxhas webbing that goes along an edge to press it into place but still let air flow through it.

There is no webbing. it looks pretty rough to be honest.

How does it hold the filter in the center section of the air box? Does it just have a rib with a lot of holes, or one really big oval hole? I assume the Dinan lid doesn't look like the famed 'Free airbox mod' where they just cut all the fins out of the stock box...

It's just a straight piece of metal that supports the filter there and two metal supports about half way along to hold it.

335i n54 Dinan Cold Air intake uses the stock underside to hold the filter. It only comes with top and snorkel carbon fiber. I am going to sell mine for $500... wish I didn't have to but mods now with ATF cooler is taking up snorkel area.

That's a good price for sure! I was debating making my own lid or modifying the stock one, but now I'm thinking I'm just going to do the Mr5 intake. I'm a fan of stock looking engine bays, so if I got the dinan I'd probably wrinkle paint the carbon to make it more stock ish!

Once installed, you won't want to alter the looks...even if you have made up your mind now. I am even more stock looking fan than you probably...and I didn't want to touch it once installed. That's how good it looked.

Good heavens, I just found diy on the Mr5 thing you wrote about...

1. that setup with the slinky tube has too much turbulence.
2. setup also is not protected from heat soak in the bay....

The Dinan kit not only has true carbon fiber that is temperature resistant and reduces your intake temps, but it is smooth inside the tube, protected from heat soak and the end of the snorkel is in the fog light opening away from the engine chamber, plus that snorkel end with the cone filter is also protected by heat deflection plates that mount in between the cone and the intercooler...yeah, they are that anal retentive...and that thing works well.
here is my install video...incomplete, but you get the gist.

I was more thinking I would copy the entrance location and make my own piping... I have a mig and tig welder with plenty of piping on the shelves.

But yeah the Dinan is far cleaner. Let me see how my other buys go and what I have leftover. Got the Gc lites, working up a huge list of preventative maintenance, so trying to keep in budget lol.

No problem. Let me know PM if you want to make an offer. I got it all ready to ship except for the power steering mount I need to take off and rejoin with the rest of the Dinan. I am flexible on price. Cheers.
