Hey friends, I'm in need to do my shift linkage in my '08 135i, (She feels like a sloppy hoe.) But I want to just do a short shifter kit while I'm at it. Who has done one and is happy with the results?
Thanks!

Ì have the RTD shifter and it feels great! The shifts are very crisp, notchy, and direct. But it seems to rattle a good bit and has this occasional “clinking” sound... going to get under the car this weekend and see if something is loose.. but otherwise, it’s amazing!

RTD is just too tall for my taste. I have the UUC shifter w/ a heavy stainless knob, BMS shift rod & like it.

I'm putting an RTD race one in with my spec 3+, trans reseal, brass fork pivot and single mass fly wheel.

I'll be removing a B&M ssk, bms shift rod and alcantara BMW performance knob

Text me if your interested, I also plan on parts warrantying my 550 clutch so will have a brand new 550/335is clutch kit as well if interested

Been looking into the RTD shifter as well recently. Had the BMW SS kit in my last 335 but it wasn't much different than stock. Still sloppy

A short shift kit will not eliminate slop. The slop is in the shifter carrier bushings.

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine...btijB7a_puMlMu1i3B27bHkF7hOW0gChoCL9AQAvD_BwE

The two shifter bushings at the front can be replaced with Delrin (https://www.akgmotorsport.com/produ...-delrin-oval-e8x-e9x-z4-2-5si-z4-3-0i-2006/); however, most of the slop actually comes from the 3rd mounting point (the Shifter Arm Bushing). This bushing has no stiffer replacement as far as i know (maybe look into the IS part?). I filled mine with polyurethane myself which significantly reduced the amount of shifter movement.

The other point of slop is that the stock selector arm only mounts to one point. A dual sheer selector rod (DSSR) eliminates a bit more of the slop.

Instead of going with a SSK, upgraded carrier bushings, and the DSSR, you can buy a shift kit that replaces the entire stock assembly (something like the RTD shifter).

Great post, the rtd seems to be a popular choice lately, where as before the dssr and ssk was all we heard about.

I'm wondering if that company will make one of those sequential style shifters for this car.

If you're gonna run the RTD, it is highly recommended that you run stiff or solid trans mounts, main difference between OEM style and RTD is that the RTD carrier is mounted to the car so when cornering, your trans moves while your shifter/carrier stays stationary so gear locations relative to the knob can change without stiff trans mounts. The OEM style just pivots on a bushing mounted to the car but is mainly mounted to the trans. I drove an RTD e46 m3 and had slightly more side to side play than my BMS SSK but then again i shimmed my DSSR to have absolutely no play. You will also want to change the foam bushing where the selector rod connects to the trans.

I ordered the RTD shifter back on January 9th and it still hasn’t shown up in the mail. I ordered direct from RTD. I Assume these are made per order and not stocked, and that’s why it’s taking so long.

Just something to consider, if you order from RTD it may take a while to get your stuff.

Says on their site they're made to order with a 4-6 week lead time.

What’s their website address? rtdshifting.com loads and says offline every time I check it. I ordered the shifter via email.
