Just for looks really. If it were in a hotter area, it would aid in reflecting heat, but radiant heat absorption is not really going to be an issue for unseen end tanks.

It's not intentionally polished. Thats just the finish that comes on Aluminum sheet metal

Realistically this should be easily done during the fab process. If not, easily done by the purchaser.
