Opinion on an n54 motor and trans.

There is a gentleman selling an n54 motor, wiring, and dme with the hp trans for 400 bucks out of a 535i. Supposedly 120k miles. It's been sitting for six months.... I'd say a year from the looks of it.

Thinking of getting it for a spare, maybe build it.

I'm skeptical because I've never seen a trans motor combo under 1500 bucks.

If it's garbage, is it worth 400?

I've seen some people tryna get rid of n54 stuff cheap these days doesn't seem like an unheard of deal. If she spins she wins to me for that price.

If the head is good that should be worth 2-400 I would think.

Yeah trans alone can be sold for 400 if it works. Seems like a deal to hop on if everything checks out some people end up with stuff they don't know how to get rid of

Yeah... possibly. Ugh... I'm elbows deep in my m54 motor right now. I shouldn't even be considering that drivetrain. I don't even have a place to hide it from my wife.

Very true. I just offered the guy 250, that's what I can get from a recycling yard for the metal if it's all crap.

Yeah thats a cant go wrong price right there especially if it doesn't even up being junk.

I had to pass on it. He isn't budging on price. After zooming in on the pics I was noticing a lot of really bad corrosion, cracking, rotting. It's been sitting outside uncovered for who knows how long. I guarantee rain water has found many ways inside that motor.
