Doing my weekly ECS stalk and noticed this:

Been waiting for an update on the docrace concept ones for a while, this was a nice find. For anyone with a driver side plastic tank this could be a very useful replacement. For anyone like me who loves to spend too much money replacing plastic things in our engine bay, this is also very useful.

500 dollarssss. Typical ECS lol. I like this but im still gonna wait a little longer on the DOC RACE tank. Doesn't seem like it will ever come to fruition tho.

Definitely expensive but I've yet to see a cleaner looking relocation kit, moves the power steering resevoir as well out of the way and tucks it in the corner, and i would assume coming from turner its all plug and play and doesnt have issues like not being able to fully lock the coolant level sensor in place or hugging your lower coolant line close to the serpentine belt

I would NOT assume anything about Turner any more. Although Will Turner kept Turner Racing, the other side of the business was purchased by ECS which reportedly eliminated any real R&D capability.

Makes sense, they have been the primary n54 vendor on that site for a while anyways. I bought a lot of the ECS brand items in the past, namely the silicone rubber reinforced coolant hoses and they seemed to be good quality, definitely not from china.

I'd love to see someone buy this and do a comparison. I don't understand its design. It seems to "top" mount the tank, setting it high relative to the mount points. I've switched to the N55 tank which is far more compact - it will run with N54 coolant lines though they are a stretch. I'm looking at switching to the N55 coolant lines to the tank (p/n different than N54) as they look identical and it seems they likely provide a bit more hose length.

Anyway love to hear some hands-on feedback.

Did you go with the 335d coolant reservoir? It's a mirror image of the non diesel 335's and mounts right up.
You'll need to move the power steering reservoir as well, but I found the the 328xi has a bracket that mounts it to the strut tower which we have studs for.
You can also just use the 335d ps reservoir bracket.

Nope. N55 as I mentioned above. Bolts right up as is. I'm E89 (electric steering, no PS reservoir).

The problem I found with the 335d tank is you have to raise it up on the fill above the strut tower or at least tilt it on a 45deg angle otherwise you could not get all the air out of the bottom line, the ecs one looks high enough not to cause this issue.

I prefer plastic tanks as they split, rather that if there was an issue than something else.

Looks good otherwise.

Why would you have to raise it? If it’s a mirrored copy of the 335 tank, it should sit at the same height on the driver’s side as on the passenger’s side.

In my situation, I'd only move the reservoir if I could get a clean and proper airbox on the driver side. Not really a fan of the sheet metal stuff.

Also curious if the CSF can be tapped on the passenger side so the expansion drain doesn't have to run all the way across.
