My friend has bought an E92 and thinks the car is too pretty, heavy and expensive to drift and really just wants to put the engine in an E46 compact.

He is a farmer, and we (mostly he whilst I pass tools and do the electrics) have done a few engine changes before but never a swap between chassis types.

Any hints or links on my responsibility which is the electrics are appreciated.

It does not need to be street legal or pass emissions. It needs to drive with full stage 2 power and drift.

We have the complete and working E92 335i SE manual 2006 car and about 10 E46 cars in various states. The 335i has a noisy clutch release bearing, faulty front O2 sensor and a fuel pressure sensor fault but has recent new standard turbos.

The track is twisty and we do not need silly power, he just got a podium in an E46 330ci in a local competition with only 231HP. The widest rear tyre allowed is 225mm.

Totally doiable in the e46 chassis. The electronics are involved but since you have a while car as reference straight forward. I don't know if your rhd bit it's a real pain but doiable.
Cheers

Yeah RHD. Owner unsure after bad performance in round 2. Another has swapped N54 into a Nissan instead of previous S62 he thinks it would be really hard to do without standalone.

From the N55 to E36 swap video that seems to be the the nearest complete documented and working example of its type
- it seems a complete loom and module swap.

To drift an E92 as it is with welded diff, you could code out the e diff (2006 model has it?). On E46 we unplug right rear ABS sensor to use hydraulic handbrake, and then raise DME "engine speed limit with ABS error" up from 5200 RPM. Equivalent on N54 to disable ABS to use hydro?
