On my N54 I find that the wifi connection just times out. Never have problems losing connection while flashing or reading codes. Problems I have is when I do a few pulls logs to send to my tuner. The first one records, and then I travel to a safe and empty road so I can wind out third and forth gear and forget how finicky WiFi connections are at disconnecting/timing out and end up with a blank 1KB file. I have two shitbox android tablets bought specifically for MHD prior to the wifi adaptor being available, and once I bought the wifi adaptor to connect to my iPhone I found it is no less annoying than using a cable with my old tablets. Fumble with a cable, or fumble with wifi connections. Both suck equally.

basically, if you’re having problems while flashing and have set the device to airplane mode you may have a faulty wifi dongle? But if you’re experiencing it cutting off while doing multiple logs over a period of a few minutes of no activity, it’s a good bet your phone is timing out the wifi connection. Not sure there is a way to lock in the wifi connection to your device, but would be a nice feature if the app could talk to the phone and tell it to stop dropping connection while the app is open.

Just bought a micro usb to lighting adapter, $8 on Amazon so I can go back to the DCAN cable. Less frustrating than dealing with old shitty androids or wifi altogether.

While on the topic of dedicated devices.. anyone ever thought about making a barebones raspberry PI display that JUST screencasts MHD from your phone? Basically, a $100 DIY 3.5” fake-me-out Awron display that can be custom mounted in a vent. Or I am the only one too vane to mount a phone on their dash?
