Big bump. Been hard at work on wiring now that the weather is decent. Posts updated.

Hey @martymil what did you do about DCT and engine oil coolers? The 135 oil cooler is too “tall” for the M3 DCT lines to fit correctly. Also doesn’t look like the M3 engine oil cooler will fit which is a big bummer.

Sorry dude just saw this, I used the 1m engine cooler for the DCT all I did is flushed it out as it does fit.

The 135 engine cooler is exactly the same.

The engine cooler I reused from the m3 by modifying the brackets no issues, 1m front bar works perfectly with the engine cooler.

No worries. This is the same thing I've seen others who have done the 1M body do, interesting that the 135 is that much different. The 135 oil cooler doesn't work with the DCT cooler lines, the connection point is too tall, and there's no way the M3 engine oil cooler fits in the 135. I ordered a CSF DCT cooler so that shouldn't be an issue other than the outer two duct screws not fitting. I'm making a custom oil cooler bracket for an aftermarket oil cooler... pain in the ass.

Strange, just check the oil coolers on realoem and see if the part numbers are different between the 1m and 135i.

The csf m3 dct cooler wont fit our cars as the ducting is different but possibly if you modify the m3 ducting and guard liner it may work, haven't looked into
it as it wasn't needed in my case.

There is so many variations between the models that what works on one doesn't work on the other and that includes the engine loom, that is why when you order parts you have to supply a vin and when people ask if a kit can be made the answer is not a chance.

The cores and everything are actually the same size between the 1 series oil cooler and the M3 DCT cooler, the only difference is the height of where the lines connect, and the two ears where the duct connects on the outside. The duct connection I'll just zip tie or something, not worried about it since you can't see it, the DCT lines are hard at the end and don't fit into the connection point of the 1 series cooler well. I can unclip the lines along the fame rail and they will connect but then they're flopping around and it looks half-assed.

May be totally different for the 1M, who knows.

You can see in Brintech's videos they just cut the outside mounting ears off the M3 cooler and mounted it up:

holllllyyyyyy shit! Awesome!

Yes, those crash bars fit. I have been trying to snipe some one Ebay for the weight savings. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1282179

So with quite a bit of trimming to the outside portions of the crash bar it does fit. I wouldn't do it on a road going 1 series since the tow hook cover won't fit any more but for a track car it seems like a great way to save 9 lbs at the best area on the entire car to save it.

as you can see the 1m or lci oil cooler is taller than the 135i.

its like the m3 but with proper 1 series brackets.

After doing a bit of reading my donor m3 was an 08 and lci's have a few differences like dct lines, different serpentine belts, alternators and so on.

Who knows what other differences there are.

Other things like rod bearings have been updated to the newer ones.

Tip

Just saw rbs been pulled out of a later model lci with 113k and they looked like new, he was changing his oil between 7.5 to 13k km or 12 months.

So if you change it regularly most likely there won't be any issues.

That's 3 cars I seen like that that had regular oil changes that didn't need changing, guess it come down to maintenance and it's not an Rb issue after all.

Interesting that they changed something like the trans cooler and lines for the LCI. Sometimes BMW makes me scratch my head. Yes, my 135 and M3 are 2012 and 2013 respectively so that makes sense why my lines wouldn't work with the 135 cooler. Oh well, I'll get the CSF cooler in there and it'll be better off for track use anyway.

I did the bearings in my engine just for peace of mind, and because the engine was already out. The engine has 52,100 miles and the OEM bearings were totally fine. Should be good to go for a while now with the BE bearings in it. Due to being mostly a track car I don't expect to do more than 1500-2000 miles a year so oil changes will be far more frequent than 15k.

I've seen 3 cars now with 100k+ on them that had oil changes between 5k and 13k km or 12 months and every engine had perfect bearings , conclusion its not the bearings but the maintenance schedule from bmw that's the problem..

I also seen a 300k mile engine on original bearings with no issues but regular maintenance.

Go figure, I'll just do a oil analysis every oil change at 12 month intervals and keep an eye on it.

Another update. Car is 99% done, just need to graft the exhausts together and reinstall seats, brakes, and some other minor things.

I can’t imagine the amount of work you’ve put in @amg6975
I reckon it’ll be a hoot to drive.
Well done mate It’s quite the achievement !
Thanks! It had been quite a bit of work. So many little things that pop up every step of the way. Getting it out on track May 15th and 16th, I can't friggen wait. The car was a hoot with the N55 so this should be a whole new ball game.

Most think it's not that much better and are very sceptical, ithe difference is so unimaginable when setup correctly in terms of handling and punch out of the corners it really boggles the mind.

I took mine to the motiv video show and they had the motorkhana there, not competitive or timed just an introductory practice session. It really surprised me how this type of conversion transforms the car.

I would love someone like Chris Harris to take the stock 1m and mine around a track to compare the difference but I already know what the verdict would be.
