I just got delivery of an MFactory LSD through Synchrotech for my 335xi, and have some questions:

1) Synchrotech suggests using either 75w90 or 75w140 diff oil with no limited slip additive added. I plan on using a 100% synthetic oil.

a) Which of the two weights would you suggest for the suggested 500 mile break-in period?

b) Would you suggest a different weight before and after the break-in period? (The car makes moderate power, I'm guessing 450-500whp and it's mainly a dd).

c) Is there a brand of oil you would recommend?

2) While breaking-in the LSD some people suggest doing multiple lock-to-lock figure 8s. Is there any benefit or drawback to this?

3) There have been multiple posts regarding coding to disable the Electronic Diff in order to take proper advantage of the LSD and they refer to this article: http://www.onelapx1.com/blog/how-to-make-your-bmw-actually-fun

a) Is there any safety concerns (e.g. upsetting the balance of the car) when disabling the e-diff on my AWD car and installing a rear LSD while my front diff is still open?

Thank you!

MFACTORY recommends Torco, I've ran RedLine GL-5 75w90 since initial install no issues. 75w140 is for track use.

2)

The figure 8's help with break-in and are a good time to listen for strange mechanical noises before getting up to high speeds.

I haven't done this yet, I just turn off traction control.

No clue as I'm RWD but i doubt it.

Thank you!

Glad to hear the LSD came in well! @Darklabs would have to chime in on the type of fluid used in my diff, I forget. I had the eLSD disabled. I'm thinking @BimmerGeeks! should have an easy solution to this problem soon.

Michael at mFactory recommended that I use "a good fully synthetic 75w90 such as the OEM oil", "you will need around 2 liters" with their helical LSD

I coded mine out too with INPA and NCS Expert

Unfortunately I have no experience with coding or either of those two programs. I just haven't had a need for it yet. I have no idea how long it would take me to get up to speed with it but if it's reasonably DIY-able I may start researching. I'm fairly computer savvy.

Any particular driving style needed for the break in miles? Like taking it easy on a new clutch for awhile.

Michael told me last year that there isn’t any break in for the diff. But the fluid does need to get changed after the first 500 miles. So buy 4 quarts and a vacuum pump since there is no drain on the diff. I took it easy on mine anyway after the install before I did the fluid change since I was breaking in the clutch.
