What's up with the hood? That looks very dangerous...

I had a CF hood once come loose at the front and slam back on the windshield and it is terrifying at speed.

168 is moving!

I didn't realize it until I saw photos after the event... but that stock latch was holding on for dear life. The nasty headwind and no side latches allowed the hood to lift pretty bad after 60mph. I have since installed hood pins and am glad nothing happened sooner.

I've also had that bad experience with my previous car. The hood whipped up and broke the windshield. Got a new hood, new windshield and installed removable hood pins. A few weeks later I forgot to put the hood pins back in after opening the hood. Happened again. I was pissed. This time I got some pins that aren't removable lol.

Yeah that hood was just begging to ruin your day! Lucky the latch held!

You go with the aero latches I am guessing?

Hood vents would solve all your problems as far as the hood and then some. The added benefits would also be. 1. Evacuated underhood pressure, 2. Heat removal, 3. Stop the front end from lifting as pressure builds under the hood (see #1). You see that hood flex, imagine how much pressure it takes to do that. ALL of that pressure is using that full area of the hood to try to lift the front end, the more it lifts the more air is allowed under it. Vicious circle.

You have more info on the headlights I think they are amazing

I got them second hand from another 135i owner. He was putting his car back to stock and we traded. Whoever customized them just swapped out the OEM angel eye rings for F-series style rings, covered the orange reflector and added a carbon fiber inner eyebrow. Someone like Bay Optikz could customize your lights to look the same.

The hood actually comes with vents on each side! I'm assuming you'd prefer larger ones?

I had vents in my hood on another vehicle. My only complaint is I did not like water dripping all over my engine bay if I forgot to check the weather and it rained or when I went to wash the car I would put microfiber towels over them to stop everything dripping in.

Performance wise vents can be a great choice.

Those vents are in an area of high pressure. They do not vent air. The driver side hole is actually used as an air INTAKE on the V8.

I've been doing lots of work to the 135i and have updates coming, but in the mean time, I want to share some exciting news. I added my first ///M to the garage!

Man, that is worse than me and I had this happen.

The year was 2009 and I was working on my first 335i which I bought wrecked with a clean title on ebay....

TLDR: Couldn't wait to take it for the first drive and decided to gun it without anything whatsoever holding the carbon hood down, the radiator support wasn't even installed. Bought another CF hood and turned out it wasn't as nice which was annoying.

If you haven't already noticed, YouTube and Instagram are where I post most of my content. If you aren't already subscribed/following there, you're missing out ;)

That being said, I have exciting news I want to share! I took the car to the drag strip after doing a ton of modifications last year. Haven't really changed anything under the hood but removed a lot of weight from the car and upgraded everything under the car. LSD, DSS axles, M3 front/rear control arms, adjustable toe arms, all new bushings, etc. Also fit a set of slicks and skinnies.

First pass on 20psi ran an 11.29 @ 128mph with a 1.94 60ft.
Second pass on 25psi ran a 10.53 @ 137mph with a 1.73 60ft.
Third pass on 28psi ran a 10.36 @ 134mph with a 1.59 60ft.

Log: https://datazap.me/u/suspenceful/1036-13409mph?log=0&data=1-3-4-11-25-26-27-28-29

I actually set a record on my 3rd pass with the 10.36 ET! Currently the fastest manual trans N5X BMW with stock chassis. Ghassan Automotive went 9.6 but they have a custom back-halfed chassis.

I think I can run 9's as I was misfiring during my 10.36 pass, watch the video :p

Hey Jake. I'm thinking of trying a clutch launch control device like you had on your car in a previous video. I'm curious how you taped into factory clutch line?

I've had a few people reach out to me asking to check back into SpoolStreet... and I realized it's been way too long since I've updated this thread. So much has happened since my last update a year and a half ago.

My Instagram and YouTube channel are where I post most of my content. Be sure to follow/subscribe if you're interested in keeping up with my BMW builds!

I'm currently in talks with Billiam Mason (BMB Autowerks) about a built engine. The 135i engine is finally ticking/knocking internally after all of the 750+whp abuse. My goal is to get something that can handle 900whp and maaaaaybe throw a bigger turbo on it. He recommended a 6875 Gen 2.

Here are a few pictures/videos to enjoy.

LOL @Jake@MHD It's been 3 years since this post. Soon?

EDIT: didn't mean that in a rude manner, just a friendly joke

Priorities change when you get hired full time. As stated in a different thread, N54 will still get more features and love in the future, but for now the priorities are the platforms that have no features :)
