Is anyone running or have any information about the hydra performance hpfp overdrive kit? Definitely seems to be the most affordable and simplest option for fueling headroom.

I haven't come across anything detailed other than their youtube video, which you're probably already aware of.

I bought the kit but won't be getting to fitting it for a while. It's just a different sprocket and a shorter chain.

Here's a pic of the kit:

I'm not familiar enough with chain jobs on n5x's to comment whether the sprocket and chain can be done without removing the sump and crank hub. I suspect you need to take the valve cover off, lock timing, remove sump. Belt, a pulley or two, vac pump seal/cover and possibly the crank hub need to come out in order to do this one.

I asked Hydra about some instructions or an installation vid awhile back, but haven't heard back from them. Hope that @Hydra Performance (Omar) and the gang are all OK, considering what's going on in Lebanon and neighbouring countries at the moment.

crankhub will unfortunately need to come off to replace the chain, Get a crankhub tool. Remove the valve cover, lock the cams and the crank with the tool. remove a few pullies, including the crank pulley. Pull off the vac pump seal/cover.

Good excuse to put in fresh unused friction disks, or upgrade to the newer crank hub version (or hell, go pinned while you're in there)šŸ‘

We do it @ the shop without removing the crank hub by removing the vacuum pump sprocket seal, opening the oil pump chain, tying both chains together, replacing the chain and closing it back again, but this is quite difficult to do and requires a fair bit of dexterity & special tools...

Hello, this topic interests me a lot. I live in France and we have E85, I would like to improve my HPPF because I don't want to use PI. I looked for an overdrive (POD or SPOOL) but I found better and more reliable, interesting the hydra system aimed at putting a smaller sprocket and chain. Is it more efficient than overdrive? Should the injection rail be modified? If yes, what modifications? Definitely a VCV setting? How to get this kit? THANK YOU

I have a new kit that is about out with a master link. It's from the same OEM manufacturer as the original BMW chain and used on other timing applications for other European car manufacturers. I will have about 12 kits ready to go here soon in the near future as I get some sprockets prepped.
I'm interested, why not use BMW parts instead OEM manufacturer?
Price?

We couldn't use OEM parts from BMW because 1. the correct parts don't exist and 2. the design is different. BMW's design was to use a continuous chain on all their timing components and then use tensioners to keep them tight. So in order to use a master link chain that avoids the need to remove the hub and do a full timing job, we developed the correct parts using an OEM manufacturer. I hope that makes sense.

Price is 250 shipped in the US. I'm hoping they'll be ready sometime next week.

Have you posted more details elsewhere?

How are you related to @Hydra Performance ? If I understand correctly he is the one who made all the R&D?

Why delete his account and not allow him to respond to these accusations?

I know the owner of Bimmerhausperformance personally and he is a good guy.

He offered to do a full install video of this product for Hydra Performance and to collaborate with the company on the improvements, but Hydra ignored him. There is no stealing going on when his solution is different. There is nothing proprietary about this solution and it is very common for people to improve on designs that are in the market. He had multiple tuners reach out to him regarding the improvements to the design and they encouraged him to continue to develop the product for the community with his changes since Hydra didn’t have any interest.

Let me start by saying I'll not make any assumptions regarding what affiliation you may or may not have with Bimmerhausperformance.

I don't know if Hydra patented it this, but I have not seen anybody else take that approach prior to Hydra doing it. It' a clever novel approach to the problem he came up with. I don't see how he's under any obligation to work with anybody who may approach him about wanting to do install videos or collaborating with him on the product he came up with. Ignoring somebody is not giving up your rights to them. If Bimmerhausperformance has their own unique product as you say, why didn't they start their own thread for it vs. trying to hijack Hydra's thread?

I appreciate Hydra ingenuity but Hydra wasn’t the first person to put a smaller sprocket on something to make it turn faster. BHP commented on the thread because people complained about having to remove the hub. He didn’t need to collaborate with Hydra but respectfully offered to help promote the hydra product, which hydra didn’t want to do, and that is fine. BHP also offered to be a wholesaler for the Hydra product, to help push the kit in the US and avoid the slow and expensive freight. Hydra didn’t want to play ball, which is totally their right, so he took his own solution to the market.

I don’t think that deserves a ban.

Sorry, forgot to address the affiliation comment.

I am not employed by Bimmerhausperformance, however he is a friend and I’ve done install and review videos for his products and others before on my YouTube channel.
