Looks like M57 had the CP3 HPFP and the N57 got the CP4 ... and those are known to fail as well on other diesel platforms, including the 6.7L Powerstroke. This is worth reading.
Unlike the gas motors, the N57 is a fuel recirculation setup, so when the HPFP fails (and it is a metal particulate failure) it takes out the complete fuel system from stem to stern.
We don't have enough N57s in the USA to see a solution developed, I suspect. I sure hope the Europeans do something.
