I'm trying to get prepped for my Z4's disassembly next month. Ordering up a bunch of hardware so we have it ready to roll. The trans is coming up. @barry@3DM says he's seen aluminum bolts in the mix (1-use of course), he believes on the oil pan side. I hit realoem and I swear an intern did this - I can't imagine how hard it is to document this. Let me not delve into the diagram because I'm just going to start hurling expletives. To make matters worse, I heard that the bolts updated from some being aluminum to all steel.

Can anyone put me out of my misery - does someone have an inventory of all the bolts or can tell me which might be one-time use aluminum?

Thanks,

Filippo

I used real oem and ECStuning to piece mine together. There is a kit you can buy through ECStuning but it doesn't include all the necessary hardware.

I replaced mine with aluminum. I didn't see a steel version.

I can look for p/n's for you when I get a minute.

FCP does not identify the 5 bolt set as aluminum. ECSTuning does, so thanks for the tip (I am placing an FCP order):
ECSTuning. Same thing at FCPEuro. If those are the only aluminum bolts, then I'm good. The steel ones should be fine I imagine...

IIRC it was only 5 bolts that were Al, PN 23000417164 that are NLA from BMW, superceded back in 2013 by 23001222894 which are steel. Rein brand Al bolts are still available but I don't see any reason to use those over the steel ones besides some small weight savings.

I swapped 2 of them to steel when I removed the DP hanger, will be changing the rest over when I do the clutch later this year.

The Z4 diagram on Realoem sucks but assuming you have the same bolt pattern as the 1M the diagram here is miles better:

My 5 were alum, replaced with cap hex head from local farm and home. Top 2 were steel etorx, bottom 3 were smaller steel e10/e12s. Also reused the flywheel bolts, as they were steel.

Also replaced
Pivot pin with a this one.
Clutch fork. My spec 3+ came with this and I didn't know it so now I have an extra one now.
Flywheel bolts. I have an 8 bolt.

Didn't bother
Pilot bearing. Looked fine so didn't touch it. Looks like a pain in the arse.
Rear main seal. Looked fine so didn't touch it. Ain't broke don't fix it.
Pressure plate bolts.

Last round of parts on order, Neil. We start building the stainless steel outlet setup next. XClutch arrives tomorrow. Hopefully the light at the end of the S55 HPFP tunnel is about to shine. We are planning a late April, early May disassembly. I expect this thing to be stupid fast and handle the power accordingly with all of the work @barry@3DM has done. He just informed that he's pulling the Ohlins to do some tweaks on the setup for the power handling. I guess the shock dyno showed up :grimacing:.
