I'm working with local fabricator/mech engineer to look at half cage options for my car. All the options I've found either something I don't like or are too much $$$. We've talked about making a small batch & want some feed back from others to keep in mind. We're thinking 1.75" DOM or chromoly & tig welded. Finishing (paint or pc) would be up to the buyer to keep cost down. Ideally would be as bolt in as possible if demand is there but that will be determined once we're into it.

Who's interested?
Ball park price?
Lose rear seat completely?
Lose seat back keep bottom?
Keep seat?
Finished or Raw?
Other things to incorporate?

Im interested. Already ditched rear seat completely. Would like it to be less than 4 digits price point. Harness bar incorporated. Shipped raw.

Keep the rear seat if possible. You will have to modify ge side bolsters to keep them but I wouldn’t think it would be that bad to do. Maybe make the rear legs have enough contour so you don’t obstruct the rear 1/4 windows?

So you can just slip the cross bars out the trunk and put the seat back up and drive normally, right? This would need to be more complicated for a convertible since the fold down seats do not expose the trunk, not like there would be a market for that anyway.

The cage won't be very strong since it doesn't have the cross bars intersecting the node of the other bars tube.
Or, perhaps the mounting bracket that is welded at a 90* angle to the tube will be ripped off the face of the tube.
In any case, its a compromise and not an ideal strong solution.

Wouldn't it be possible to just weld in another removable bar?

seems like ok concept, but cages on street cars... are they willing to include hoop padding and actually design it so its semi safe for the street?

Interested
Needs harnesss bar
No backseat
Raw finish will make it easier on buyer to color match and on seller about shipping
A 4 point will work for just a roll bar
Preferable it to be certifiable by what ever race event one is doing ie NHRA compliant

If you want a half cage, just get specs on the M3 GTS cage and have it copied. You know it was engineered to be safe and meet certs. Then pad it for street use.

That'll only work for the E90 not so much for the 92 also just curious but is the m3 wider on the inside or are the specs the same as well

GTS is a coupe, not a 4 door.
My bad missed the GTS part. But Autopower already makes a decent roll bar. The problem I've seen is the lack of 6 point full cages and fitment there. Most drop before the dashes blocking certain view points where I wouldn't mind cutting the dash for a proper fitting cage
