CTS Turbo Billet Oil Filter Cap Review ★★★★☆ @CTS Turbo

http://www.ctsturbo.com/cart/produc...MW_2_0L_3_0L_Oil_Filter_Housing-4982-679.html

Don't ask me to defend the benefits of this product. Well, beyond the fact that I can put a socket on the top to remove or install it. But that said, once and a while a bedazzling, game-changing product hits the market. This is. that. product.

Ok, they stamp 25 n-m on the top, so one knows not to Schwarzenegger the thing. It's billet aluminum. Billet, boys. That's quality right there. Not to mention the cap is not just anodized, but hard anodized. You know, rather than soft anodized. I wish they had the option to order it shot peened and slathered in heat transfer coating - but they're probably testing the market for such a product.

What I assume to be cooling fins are concentrically milled into the top of the cap, which I suspect will cause a significant drop in operating oil temps. In Mustang 5.0 speak, "Good for 28hp." Of course running a product on a BMW which has "CTS" engraved on it actually contributes a -28hp Cadillac Factor, so there is no net gain.

Quality is very good. Anyone who buys the CTS Turbo Billet Aluminum Oil Filter Cap, note you have to remove the plastic cage inside your stock oil filter cap, then install it in this cap. Note the cage fits somewhat looser than on the factory cap, likely due to the press-on being plastic on aluminum instead of plastic on plastic - but it works fine. Yessiree, $69.99 for a oil filter cap and one still has a project on one's hand. It's the satisfaction of contributing to a job well done that CTS Turbo is clearly after for its customers.

I'd give it 5 stars once I've driven it for a month and found that it doesn't crush my oil filter, cause my turbos to overboost, or create electrical interference with my Flexfuel system. I bought the product outright from BMP Tuning (who knew they were still in business?!?!). Though while being a shill myself, this is not a shill product review.

Filippo

p.s. Props to CTS Turbo for not sending CTS Turbo stickers to run on my car. Like I want to CTS badge a BMW ... seriously ...

Thanks Filippo. If I could give it two ratings I would rate it both “like” and “informative”.

Also, is that your Z4 engine bay? Sweeeet!

I like the design. Thanks for posting this. Never cared for the ECS style. Did you add the gold lettering? The websight showed it as just black. I purchased one anyway but am curious

How did the centering post fit in this cap?
You can grab the center section, rock it back and forth, and it will just pop off the factory cap. Pops right on the new piece.

The lettering - you just can't see the markings (like n-m) in a dark engine compartment. It's milled about 0.010" deep. I took a copper Sharpie and marked it up, then wiped the top clean with a wood block in which I soaked a bit of Naphtha.

I realize no post is complete on Spoolstreet's N54 sub-forum without a dyno pull and data logs. Where's Tony Vargas to call me on this when I need accountability?! I'll make sure to get some before and after logs for you guys. My apologies in advance!

Did your oil filter cage snap on to the CTS part? I just installed mine on Saturday and it did not snap on the CTS part like it does on the OEM part. So, I called a buddy who has it and he said his did not snap on as well so I just installed it as is and all is fine but the instructions indicate that it should snap on the CTS piece.

Yes. It snaps on, though not exactly the same because one part is aluminum while the factory part is some form of plastic. It will click on there and it will stay. You can move it around with your fingers but that doesn't matter. Works just fine on my car.

Yeah mine just kinda locked in but no loud click like oem. I tried it a couple times and shook it around, it holds, plus therthe no where for it to really go once it's inside the housing. I'm hoping with future changes, when removing the filter I don't remove the cage as well.
