Don't ask me to defend the benefits of this product. Well, beyond the fact that I can put a socket on the top to remove or install it. But that said, once and a while a bedazzling, game-changing product hits the market. This is. that. product.
Ok, they stamp 25 n-m on the top, so one knows not to Schwarzenegger the thing. It's billet aluminum. Billet, boys. That's quality right there. Not to mention the cap is not just anodized, but hard anodized. You know, rather than soft anodized. I wish they had the option to order it shot peened and slathered in heat transfer coating - but they're probably testing the market for such a product.
What I assume to be cooling fins are concentrically milled into the top of the cap, which I suspect will cause a significant drop in operating oil temps. In Mustang 5.0 speak, "Good for 28hp." Of course running a product on a BMW which has "CTS" engraved on it actually contributes a -28hp Cadillac Factor, so there is no net gain.
Quality is very good. Anyone who buys the CTS Turbo Billet Aluminum Oil Filter Cap, note you have to remove the plastic cage inside your stock oil filter cap, then install it in this cap. Note the cage fits somewhat looser than on the factory cap, likely due to the press-on being plastic on aluminum instead of plastic on plastic - but it works fine. Yessiree, $69.99 for a oil filter cap and one still has a project on one's hand. It's the satisfaction of contributing to a job well done that CTS Turbo is clearly after for its customers.
I'd give it 5 stars once I've driven it for a month and found that it doesn't crush my oil filter, cause my turbos to overboost, or create electrical interference with my Flexfuel system. I bought the product outright from BMP Tuning (who knew they were still in business?!?!). Though while being a shill myself, this is not a shill product review.
Filippo
p.s. Props to CTS Turbo for not sending CTS Turbo stickers to run on my car. Like I want to CTS badge a BMW ... seriously ...
