car shuts off while cruising

So basically what's been going on is that while driving to work in the highway the car randomly shuts off and then I have to pull over to the shoulder where the car won't start again unless I unplug the negative terminal from battery and plug it back in. now there are no misfires no limp mode but I do get fuel related codes which are indicating low fuel pressure at the rail I have no high power fuel pump symptoms the car starts up fine in the morning even on E85 it pulls hard no long cranks or anything of that the car drives completely normal until it turns off and the fuel pressure drops to 55 PSI once I unplug the negative and plug it back in fuel pressure goes back up to 75 PSI and car starts up right away and drives as if nothing had ever happened.
So far I've replaced the fuel pressure sensor and the ekp also sent out my stage 2 fuel pump to fuel it who tested the fuel pump on the bench and said that It checked out okay and still sent me a new fuel pump, now while this was happening with my stage 2 fuel pump I put back in the car the stock fuel pump and the problem went away (tought it was a bad fuel pump all this time) now that I received my new fuel pump from fuel it I put the stage 2 back in and the problem came back.
It definitely seems like a problem with the ekp so I'm waiting on a new one to see if the one that I replaced the original with was also weak, but in the meantime I would like to see if I can get any more ideas onto what to check, I was also thinking on rewiring the fuel pump straight to the battery with a relay do you guys think this would take some stress off the ekp and maybe even solve the problem if all this is a problem with the stage 2 drawing too much current from the ekp?

Any help is greatly appreciate it I'm in the dark here

I don’t think re-wiring will solve the issue.

I had those same symptoms when I was running Stage 2 LPFP. EKP module was overheating so, I replaced it and no issues since then.:)

yeah brought it by Steve at fuel it he didn' recommnd it, that was my original thought so I replaced it with no luck in this case hopefully it was bad luck and was defective as well so the new one that is coming in the mail will solve the problem shit is annoying and driving me nuts

yeah another EKP is on its way hopefully today or tomorrow ill get it (no. tracking), also order my fuel sending unit since I found it leaking, and doing a dme software update on my "new" dme in manny cases that fixed the same problem to a couple of people on forums and worth the try at least it'l be updated, wierd part is with the OEM pump the problem goes away and it only becomes active once the stage fuel pump goes back in the thank that' why I'm leaning towards the EKP ill update once I get it, in the mean time keep the ideas coming lol and that k you all for the inputs

so it seems the first ekp I received was faulty too (didnt find a way to test it) but the guy that sold it to me took it back and sent me a replacement as I stated above, i received it yesterday and been driving my car for two days and seems safe to say the problem it's gone , part# is different than the original and it' thicker but according to REAL OEM it's. a go and didnt even coded to the car, car is running perfect so far

since I'm here figure I'd update;

car never shut off again the the "new" EKP solved the problem, so in fact the first replacement I received was also bad or weak where with oem fuel pump it would work fine but once stage 2 lpfp went in the thank it would overheat the weak EKP shutting off my lpfp therefore "fuel injection cut out" , hope it helps someone in the future

I just saw this. Apparently, Torqbyte is working on an EKPM PnP solution. A new driver module or amplifier (PM4) that draws more current than the EKPM can supply. So, that will keep the EKPM from failing or overheating in a long term.

Actually, they already offer a solution (PM3) but it’s not PnP.

Sorry for kicking up an old topic but this comes with the best example;

It seems that there are multiple verions of the EKPM3. You can see the two different versions above (72726046 HW06 and 7229173 HW04)

I currently have the HW04 in my car and ordered a HW06 spare. Does anything know the difference and if they should work?

I didn't get the same codes but I had a similar situation where rail pressure would die and the car would come to a half in the middle of the freeway. Clearing the codes would allow the car to start back up.

I'm curious if this problem ever came back? I wonder if the excess draw over time will eventually wear out your 'new' EKP. Once I switched to the BPM4 I haven't had the issue again.

Never happened again, after I replaced with ekp3 went fbo tuned on e60 by twisted eventually pushing it more and never had the same problem again(was tuned by twisted on e25 when it happened)

Which part number is the replacement module? I currently have the 16147229173 in a 2009 BMW 328i xDrive. Shop tried replacing it with same part number and states it needs to be programmed. They are trying to charge me $300 to do this. Does do new part with different part number not require programming? I have the same issue. I took it to BMW and I have a bad fuel pump and fuel control module.
