Cannot recode NFRM?!!

2009 E92 using NCS Expert and BMW Coding Tool:

I wanted to enable my fog lights to remain on with high beams so I read the NFRM, changed FL_UND_NSW_NICHT_GLEICHZ from aktiv to nicht_aktiv and LH_UND_NSW_NICHT_GLEICHZ from aktiv to nicht_aktiv, and tried to write it back to the module. NCS Expert said coding is faulty? See below for the error log.

I tried again with the same result so I verified the data was unchanged (both were still aktiv) and flashed it back to the NFRM - I get the same, "Coding is faulty" error.

NFRM has been on the reimbursement program for a few models and years for a while.

It can brick itself when anyone tries to code it.

Yeah, I've had FRM modules brick due to trying to code them or a battery going dead because not driving the car for months.
Being that you can still read from it I don't think it is totally bricked. Usually when its totally bricked you cant see the module at all.

However, for future reference in case anyone needs to reflash their FRM I'll try to do a write up on reflashing using an XProg Box when I get a chance.

Yep, if you have no communication and the module is undetected then most likely the FRM module's eeprom flash has become corrupted.
Which unfortunately seems to be a very common issue.

I plan on creating a write-up and posting it in the resources Here on how to reflash the module, but until then below is a good post elsewhere regarding how to flash it yourself.

Now, that being said, it is not for the faint of heart and requires an eeprom flasher and some knowledge on how to perform the flash.

Good news is that there is a 156,000 mile 10 year warranty on the FRM since it is a very common problem. So really if you can afford to leave the car with BMW over night they will fix it and all of the other recalls absolutely free. I ended up doing this with my 335 because the new FRM's are supposedly better and less prone to corruption. You can check Here on the BMW site to see all of the recalls for your car specifically.
