ATI balancer issue

Had a near catastrophic episode with the hub dampener today on my 1M.

I found a bolt end just randomly sitting on the under belly cover and then discovered 3 of the 6 bolts have sheared off the crank hub /ATI balancer setup.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue or would know why this would occur?

Car is being towed on Monday to the mechanic.

There have been some whispers about for some time. Its a worry as I have one on my fully built engine that's about to be fired up.

Were the bolts reused? Are they torque plus angle? Too much torque plus harmonics?

Car is fixed and back on the road, 3 bolts were snapped and the other 3 were we unwound using our hands once the belt was off. Bolts were not new when the ATI balancer was installed and no loctite used either. Yet another workshop issue.

Ooof. That's rough. Not sure of those are TTY, but if they are and they didn't replace them like some people do, that could definitely be the culprit. I was reading another forum where a couple of the guys don't replace the TTY control arm bolts. Crazy. Can't really blame the car or anyone else if it breaks at speed.

Was loose for quite some time by the looks of it. The car ideally needs a new crank hub and a new balancer as both a pitted up. It’s fitted back up nice and no wobble. Also noticing a lot less vibrations.

Installing some index 12’s and a few other bits that are on their way. It ain’t going anywhere near a workshop that’s for sure

Yea for sure. Surprisingly hard to find a mechanic that's trustworthy. On a side note, I think VTT had issues with their ATI creating unusual vibrations and went back to stock to solve the problem. Haven't really looked into it further to see if others had the same issue but it's just a thought.

I never had any issues with the stock balancer, but I did rebalance it when I rebuilt my motor as it was out a little.

Made a huge difference especially in low load areas in the rev range.
