I'm looking at getting a motor built by a company and I know there's MMP and ABR that do builds and I hear Ghassian was going to do some but just seeing who else, and who people might recommend. I'm around the 650whp now but always looking to go higher. Price range is up to 15k possibly

Avoid Mmp like the plague.

Do you have or know someone who has one of his built engines with a bad experience? Are you basing this off other MMP product experience?

Is there anyone on here who runs an MMP engine? I am gaining interest in a built engine as well.

The more important question is why wouldn't you go with proven engine builders? Rebello, ABR, and whomever does Motiv's machine work and assembly(can't remember who) all have a track record, and good ones at that.

Mmp I haven't read anything about other than people saying their turbos are an issue or something. I was just asking because I haven't seen anything on any real builds. You see stuff about motiv built engines and they don't technically offer it so I'm just looking for good places. Abr I have seen stuff where a few said bad things but again, I have no experience with any of these companies so I'm looking for advice on who is and where to go for it.

Rebello I did not know about so I will check them out as well. Thank you

Vtt was selling one not to long ago, if it didnt sell give them a call. Maybe vtt will a great deal on a good pair of matching turbos if you buy an engine from them? @Chris@VargasTurboTech

My vote is Motiv. They actually have years of experience racing a built engine single turbo N54. Not just straight line pulls. No other vendor on here can say the same unless things have changed.

ABR would be my second choice.
MMP is just too risky
VTT is well..VTT
VAC is expensive and no real track record on building N54s that I am aware of.

What is your goal for the engine/car?

Regardless of your opinion of tony, VTT doesn't machine or assemble the motor, and Rebello, who does, has an amazing reputation in the motorsports industry.

Motiv FTW. If not Motiv I would go ABR. I can tell you that I worked with Motiv and am using an ABR head and have had ZERO issues and the build time was great. If I were to do it again I would do it the same way.

I know man, let clarify: I would never give a penny to VTT because of Tony. The is well known and I don't hide it. Rebello is going to build it, VTT is going to make margin/profit off of Rebello's expertise and labor. Other than VTT shop cars, is anyone running a Rebello engine? If so, for more than a year and how many miles? Are they racing it competitively aka Motiv?

Motiv & ABR have a much longer history and proven track(literally) record(4+ years right?) of building N54 engines. I'm not saying Rebello will not build a good engine. I'm saying unless they are offering something different or the price is fantastic, I would go with a known proven provider of built N54 engines, which I believe that only leaves Motiv and ABR.

Once there are more Rebello n54s on the road and track with a proven 'track record' sure go with them if you are comfortable giving your money to VTT. I would say the same of MMP, once it is a proven product(multiple engines out in the wild, many miles, multiple years, real track experience, etc.) and not only being used by the shop offering it, it might be worth a shot.

I see no reason to not go with a well proven solution given the extreme cost of fully building the n54 block and head.

All that being said, to each their own. It's your money, gamble and spend how you want to ;)

So your reply is Bias based on Tony, not his products. Alot more people work at his shop other than tony.

Rebello is going to build it, VTT is going to make margin/profit off of Rebello's expertise and labor.

So what if they make a profit... Have you ever stopped into a consumer shop in the world? Walmart, Costco, your local grocery store? If so they all make a profit off someone elses products.

Other than VTT shop cars, is anyone running a Rebello engine? If so, for more than a year and how many miles? Are they racing it competitively aka Motiv?

Robello has been around a LONG TIME they have already created there own reputation. Are you saying that something thats good for nascar isnt good for your bmw?

All that being said, to each their own. It's your money, gamble and spend how you want to ;)

I fully agree with this.

Rebello kicks ass. But his point is valid in the sense that nothing beats actual experience with the actual platform.

For the OP, honestly, he's east coast so Rebello might not be top of the list. Gotta say I love the sleeved setup over the close deck .......

Agree, Rebello builds kickass motors but I would much rather get it directly from them instead of dealing with the people who brought us this:

VAC has been around a(use all caps) LONG TIME they have already created their own reputation.

I'm saying I wouldn't give an N54 to VAC because of their lack of experience with that specific motor. Do you get it? Not a large enough track record(pun). Period. Rebello(if you know so much about them I am surprised you spelled their name wrong but whatever) does not have a long enough track record with the N54 for me. If you are ready to give them your money go for it bro. Motiv and ABR have a proven track record, 4+ years of building high HP n54 engines that have actually been competitively raced across North America, not just ran in a straight line for 1 minute. What do you think puts more stress on an engine? Hence why I would give them my business 1st. This is just my opinion, it sounds like you have made up your own regarding Rebello based on your facts...

http://www.vacmotorsports.com/race-team.html <--read on

VAC has a large history in racing, engine builds, etc. I still would not let them touch an N54 because they don't have a lot of experience with it. Same with Rebello currently.

Do you know what Rebello is known for? It's not their BMW engines, I know this is probably a shocker to you as you know so much about them and their reputation. I'm not trying to take anything away from Rebello's accomplishments. Just that it makes sense to go with proven options unless there is a compelling reason($$$ or technology) to be a guinea pig for a new comer.

Come now ... let's not sully this thread :D

True ;) but that whole ZAGE debacle was amusing to watch play out on the forums and social media though.

Does motiv still take on these builds though? I haven't seen it offered on their page. Might have to call em and see what's up. Abr seems good too so I'll see what they got.

I would probably go ABR. Just based on the information that ABR has shared, it makes me more comfortable with them. I know a lot of people will say there are top secret things you need to know to build a motor, but it's JUST a motor. I simply like that Alex is very sharing - his videos on Youtube are very informative.
