Hey all this is probably a really stupid idea but figured i'd post it up anyway.
Being that the waste gate flap does not correctly seat on worn down turbos would it make sense to pressurize the turbo and while it is sitting flush weld it so that it doesn't move? Just an idea i had late last night and not sure if it could actually work.
Thanks!

Yes it will work. I did that on one of my turbos because the rivet fell off the wastegate valve. Took it to my fab guy and he dropped the downpipes and put 2 tack welds on the stem of the valve behind the arm. Just pull vacuum on the wastegate line, not pressure.

However, depending on the condition of the bushings in the actuator arm this may or may not fix the rattle. I just had to weld it because my shit fell off.

Do it and report back. With that mod I think you could go to 87oct fuel as well. No need for premium anymore.

OT but since you mentioned it, i run a 87OCT map on my car no problem, makes reasonable power too thanks to @V8bait
not my daily octane but in some situations i do need to run this fuel unfortunately.

/OT :)

Ironically enough we've seen many cores over the years come back with this done.:tearsofjoy:

Quite frankly I believe it was attempted by BMW service in some earlier instances as a "buy some more time fix" based on numerous scenarios/discussions we had way back then with customers and later receiving their cores.

Keep in mind there are several other moving parts and wear points in these things, so we do not think it is the end all be all remedy but it could help mitigate the noise a bit at least for some short term. Either that or it did nothing, that is unclear. Ultimately as we all know the actual fix (for BMW Service) ended up being new turbos, the follow up with extended warranties, etc.
