had to clean and swap my vanos solenoids to chase a code. When reinstalling I understand you should be hearing a pop sound when you insert them. I don't hear this and mine go in with linear resistance. When I pull the solenoid back out, the o-ring is not on the indented part of the solenoid. I thought maybe you need to push the top seal against the o-ring during installation but no matter what way I install these, the o-ring never pops and will never sit on the indented part. Does this matter? I am applying the o-ring on the solenoid before installation, not in the cylinder head gap, which I understand some people mistakenly do. I have aftermarket oil cooler lines that I disconnected to be able to insert them as straight as possible as well.
