I'm in the process of quieting the car back down a little since I have a muffler de lete and thoroughly enjoy that noise. I also noticed how much dirtier the engine bay got without the oem snorkel (I don't live in the city) so I wanted to put that piece back on. Last reason for doing this is that I think having two dirty filters is unappealing and cleaning them both is redundant.

I still own my DCI and will go back if I'm unhappy with the outcome so for now, they won't be for sale. The upgr8 filter was 18 dollars and I went into this with open expectations. hopefully the uploads turn out decent.

At the time of this video I had a failing coil so I couldn't really make the N54 breathe.

OEM air box almost didn't fit back on with the addition of a bigger vacuum port.

So basically, the DCI is gone and the stock airbox is used with some kind of after market high flow filter?

Nifty- Thanks for this, just pulled the trigger on one.
At just $17 it's a no brainer to pick one up to play with compared to the $95 AFE dry filter.

I asked Martial at MHD if drop in's qualified as an intake for his tunes. He confirmed and said that most guys over seas (not usa) in fact use a drop in. Thought I'd mention it.

To make sure I'm understanding you correctly, the stock airbox with a high-flow filter qualifies as an "intake" for MHD OTS tunes the same as dual cones?

If that setup flows well, I might throw my stock airbox back on and install some scoops.

FWIW I had a chance to look at mine last weekend when installing a charge pipe. Right at 30 days and just over 1000 miles isn't particularly long, still the filter looked fine and the clean areas of the airbox were clean as they should be. The n54 is behaving fine, fuel trims are all in order, typically within 8, almost always between 0 & +8 somewhere. I haven't yet bothered to look at for increased airflow, but since I'm not really pushing very hard I don't expect to see any dramatic increases, more just easier to do what it was already doing...

That is correct, he said DCI isn't nearly as popular over seas as I recall. Scoops are controversial but I do want a set myself. What color was my biggest hold up lol.

Glad to hear the positive feedback, and I agree, never bought this looking for max gains.. just an alternative to the filters mentioned above.

poor wording on my part :)
Wasn't thinking of power gains- I'm still in MAF based tuning mode from many years tuning mazdaspeeds, so still getting used to the speed density way of thinking as natural. In my post above I was thinking only in terms of airflow gains seen as MAF grams per second, which isn't, strictly speaking, proper for a MAP sensor and speed density of the N54.

So, not really expecting more power, just the same power (load targets) more easily achieved.

Very well worded this time. :D

((sigh...)) well, crap, not really :D I ended up saying the same thing I was trying to fix! My explanation was close enough, but that last sentence was still whacked.

....not really expecting more power, just the same power (load targets) more easily achieved.

So, despite the fact that I seem to keep saying or implying power gains, I really just mean airflow increases. I wasn't expecting to see higher peak g/s, rather to see roughly the same trending values, just more easily reached, since I don't think I was stressing the peak abilities of the original filter....

Man I need to get some sleep- This was all much easier in my head!! lolz
I keep typing around here and eventually ya'll will start reading what I'm thinking :D
