Got a question for Android users as I a novice using mostly Apple products.

I have an old rooted Nextbook and it runs MHD great on my 535i - tunes and monitors with the best of them. However it is starting to show its age and isn't performing that great anymore, so I bought a Galaxy Tab E to replace it.

The Tab E can monitor fine, but when I try and tune whether its the 2 min flash or the big 30 min start over flash... it gets to around 60% (on either type) and loses connection (light on the OBDII stops blinking). I tried to start over, but it then says my ECU is #FFFFFF and I have to load my stock bin from my Nextbook then flash the OTS tune I originally wanted from the Nextbook.

The OBDII is fine as well as the USB OTG adapter, so its either a setting in Android that I am missing or I bought the wrong tablet.

Any tips would be great, I would love to pack up the Nextbook and run the Galaxy Tab E full time.

I'd recommend grabbing an Amazon Fire HD 8 for $40-60. It's an extremely competent tablet that runs MHD flawlessly for dirt cheap. If you're looking for a "one and done" solution.

I feel like this option gets overlooked a lot.

Other than the A being their top of the line, is there much of a difference between A and E? Curious if it’s something I’m overlooking on the OS side that’s causing the drop off.3
I was instructed to get a tab "A" and no other model due to possible connectivity problems. I know there is a thread about best tablets to get for MHD where Marshall gives his recommendations. But the Tab A works flawlessly for me. You can get them for only $100 now.

I bought my dad an Amazon Fire for Christmas. I will give his a shot and if it works out... I will more than likely do that and use it specifically for the car. However, Tab A's are going for under a bill on Swappa, so that's an option too. Thank you for the info everyone! Looks like I pulled the trigger on a tablet without researching enough.

Amazon tablets are discounted for prime day today. I picked one up ahead of xhp releasing their ZF8HP tune for my F30 335.

Amazon is having serious problems right now. Amongst other things, won't let me order the Fire deals. I think its my white privilege working against me again. I'm going to order thie Fire HD 8 with the new dock. The dock locks into the USB connection (a PITA on the cars), and there is a USB cable out the rear which I figure can connect to the OBD2. I'm going to pull the Z4 cubby door (I don't have iDrive) and see if I can't retrofit the dock there. I also have the Magellan BMW retrofit plastic which I ordered 6 months ago (shown below), so I'll figure something out.

Can't wait to see what you come up with in regards to mounting it. I'm trying to figure that out with my i-drive currently, Just been throwing it on the seat for now.

I'm Z4 so any mounting I do is useless to most anyone else. Check out the new dock though, as it cleans up the USB connection to the tablet and kicks a wire out the back. I've seen folks do a variety of mounts - like to the left of the dash pod, atop of the dash. Another is those magnetic mounts that clip into the (useless) CD slot.
