Syvecs value propisition (why not JB4 or MHD??)

Lol chill out Tony nobody saying you can run a speed sensor for $150. The sensor is a $150 but you obviously need something to interpret the signal generated by the sensor. This is where the additional aux input of a stand alone ECU comes in. As far as Motiv tuning abilities they're the only people in our community running a stand alone ECU with DI besides Andy so if you don't want to roll with them then you can go obviously go to AMS, ETS, and all the other big time Syvecs tuners
That's a very impressive Meme. Glad you have that kind of times on your hands. So I guess I am still waiting for you to find people running EFR's and, and Gen 2 GTX's to run that $150 shaft speed sensor you keep talking about. Keep up the good work!

That escalated quickly...then again, I fully figured flash and piggyback guys would bash this a bit. A few years from now, MHD and JB4 will be a thing of the past and standalones will be the norm, just like EVERY other platform before us.

Would you like to bet me on this? :) Preferably a large sum of money?

Listing some platforms to the contrary... most Evo (ecuflash stock ecu), Subaru (romraider or Cobb, stock ecu), newer Hondas (hondata / flash-pro stock ecu), Audi / VW (APR stock ecu), the various domestic options like HP Tuners, SCT, etc. Have these had standalone available for a long time? Yes. And do you know what the vast majority still use? Stock ecu. The same will happen here.

Exactly the cost of the Syvecs ECU will put it out of range for most people and considering the fact that the avg joe can get away with MHD or JB4 theres little incentive for them to drop 5k+ on ecu

So if that ability were available in MHD as an additional module, what do you think a fair cost would be?

I would never try to put a price tag on your time. What I would say is that I would pay well for it. To me this is the big hurdle that will take MHD to the next level.

I'm going to have to disagree here. 5-7k for it installed and fully tuned vs MHD at $400 w/ a protune?

It will NEVER be the norm on this platform and my bet is it considerably less than 1% of the people who mod the n54 engine. I mean singles and twin upgrades are less than 1% of this platform right now. So I see no logic that would state a full stand alone would ever become the norm.

The stand alone tuned = cost of a 100k 07 335i stock today, let alone a few years.

The cost of the car is irrelevant. No company will ever lower it's price on its products because the cost to buy a car has gotten cheaper. That's just not how pricing is determined.

Make MHD tunable on the fly with no reflashing necessary and have mapped sequential control with individual cylinder shutdown for each cylinder for PI and I'll agree with you, but until MHD can do those things, it's just not there IMO.

Not to say you haven't done some incredible work already. There are just a few remaining hurdles before you're allowed out of your cage. ;)

I mentioned the cost of the car as there will be less and less people willing to invest in a high end stand alone that costs the value of the car.

But pretend I didn't mention the car value. Can you explain how syvecs will be the norm for this platform? I would wager less than 1% of the people running a tuned n54 have a single or upgraded twins. Of those I would bet less than 1% need or want syvecs.

Great post OP. Thanks for taking the time to detail your take on the system. Very much appreciated.

These ecu's are not that hard to tune as they are life racing ecu's customized and re branded for syvecs

My tuner here in Aus has been doing these for a number of years but they do take a hell of a long time to setup properly

If someone is willing to donate one I could get it tuned and fully tested and give a unbiased review on it. LOL

Just an FYI, the PnP version (which this is) comes base configured for the car's sensors with a map that will at a minimum allow startup. There is potential for more base configuration in the PnP version but unknown until someone takes the plunge, but the 200hr initialization and coding for a normal standalone is not needed in a PnP version.

Yeah if this is like most PNP standalone ECU's, it will run out of the gate and getting it to run well should not take much once a tuner gets familiar with the software. But Tony is right, to get a setup running with all the bells and whistles will take a considerable amount of time and money. as for the price, well, there will always be people willing to pay to play. I can see a lot of E9X track car guys wanting this and the E9X platform is getting damn cheap to get into.

Yup, once I buy my wife her new car I'll take her car as my DD and the 335is will be converted into a big boy toy........

Correct. This is designed for the niche of a niche of a niche of the N54 community. That said, for those of us in this uber niche part of the market... THIS IS AMAZING. Will be strongly considering this option for my track build over the next 1-2 years.
