I own an 08 N54 e60. I'm no stranger to its money sucking capabilities.....so i figured why not get another money pit.

I found a 2014 N55 535i for 3500 bucks. It's immaculate with every crazy option there was for 2014.

However it knocks when it runs.... which is probably a crank bearing. How...the original owner said he went 90k without an oil change. Wtf, right?

So, I'm no stranger to rebuilding an engine.

If I can rebuild it the cost isn't too bad. But if I dig in and it needs a short block it almost exceeds the value of the car.

I'm one the fence if I should get it.

Are the 2014 535i's just as needy as the e60 ones?

You can get a rebuilt engine for around 4k, or a used one on lkqonline.com for about the same or less. That should put you well under the value, a 14' 535i shoudl go for 15k or so. If it went 90k without an oil change then it's probably useless in terms of a rebuild.

I had to pass on it. Tranny was not shifting correctly, bald tires and the rotors were all shot. This guy basically drove the car into the ground mechanically. Perfect paint and interior, like new. Not a blemish anywhere.

I asked him why he didn't maintain it.... he said "It's paid off, out of warranty and mechanics charge too much". Wow

Mechanics cost too much! lol ... I remember back the day, working at a Nissan shop. Person brought in a new-ish Nissan Maxima. Never had changed the oil. Car was making noises and misbehaving. Sludge inside! We did several oil changes, then ran like a clock. Owner didn't know it needed oil changes!
